Rift Home 2.0 - Enhancement Requests

edited October 2018 in Oculus Rift + Touch
The purpose of this thread is to compile a list of any suggestions for additional enhancements and other "nice to have" things for the new Home 2.0 Environment. If anyone is having any issues with Home 2.0, please use a separate thread to report problems and grievances.
Granted there may be some enhancement requests that walk a fine line, such as the need to update Home 2.0 in such a way that it has little to no impact on the overall performance of the Rift when in VR. As of now we know that the Oculus Dev's are aware, and it is on their roadmap to engage in continuous improvement the Home 2.0 runtime optimization and overall experience.

That being said, I'd like to begin with my own Enhancement request:
In addition to owning the Oculus Rift, I also have GO. One of my favorite features in GO comes from browsing the store - which is an experience that takes the user in to the various environments of the VR Title you are browsing. So for example, if you click on Sea Life Relax then your 360 environment takes you under water and surrounded by whales. If you click on the Lone Echo 2 trailer, you end up inside the space station next to Liv.
Not all titles do this, but many of them have it implemented. It is similar to what Netflix does... how it starts to play a trailer when you hover over a film. Currently, the Oculus Store has a stationary video interface that you can watch while standing. But it would be amazing if developers could provide either a 360 image, 360 video, or even a full VR Trailer for anything in the store.
Imagine if Lone Echo had this, and when you clicked the "preview" button, you are suddenly Jack floating above the rings of Saturn. Not that this would be a playable demo, just a cut-scene that puts the user inside the VR world.
That feature alone would provide hours of fun browsing the 1,000+ (and growing) title list.

Please allow hiding of ads/promotions window (and other windows) just as it is allowed in Steam VR.

In the worst case, allow pinning those windows somewhere else in a room, out of sight.  Thanks!

That's all up to the developers I think but nobody has taken advantage of it for some reason for the Rift. It's been available right from the start too. All a developer needs to do is create a cubemap to have this feature enabled on their game's Store page unless I'm remembering things wrong.

Oh interesting. Yeah I'd love to see if this is a feature that does exist, and it's the Dev's not taking full advantage (yet).

Can you not just close Dash?
Then all you have is the Home environment.

If I close it, it is back on next time Home starts, it does not persist.  Or am I missing something?

No, would need to close it each time, at least as it is currently.

Providing a cubemap panorama for the store is a mobile only feature, it's not available for the rift. I've got both rift and mobile unreleased apps in the console, only the mobile ones have the field present (as of a few minutes ago).

According to the developer console, adding a cube map image to a title in the store can take up to 2 weeks to process, which seems a bit much for a 12288 x 2048 image.

You can get the guidelines that describe all of the store assets here: https://static.oculus.com/documents/oculus-store-art-guidelines.pdf

Allow audio streaming along with video streaming.  When I had a friend over we tried to see a video and he couldn't hear the audio of the video I was playing.

    1. I genuinely would like a Built-in Media Player in DASH so it is always there without having to go into the Desktop.
    2. A DISABLE "WARNING YOUR SYSTEM DOES NOT MEET THE MINIMUM SPEC" in VR.
(this is not the Health/Safety Warning and does have a Close Button only for Desktop)
    3. For Home2 I'd like a DISABLE SWITCH for Home2.

It is  pretty weird that you can check the achievement lists in the desktop Oculus interface, but not from within VR... and even the desktop list is kinda hidden and unintuitive to get to.

Good thread and suggestions, I like. OK my requests...

An option to auto-sleep my monitor when the Rift is put on, and wake it up when removed, this particular energy saving cancels out 50% of my GPU's power consumption when gaming and I do it manually every time I start a long session of Fallout 4 etc.

An option to auto-switch audio to the Rift when it's put on, an option that's properly integrated with Windows sound settings and auto-switched back when taken off. Some games, particularly Steam games have to have manual switching in Windows done before starting the game up to avoid sound form both Rift and speakers at the same time (this may be a feature in OTT but I don't use that).

Investigation and solution as to why GPU usage increases when Home is running but the Rift isn't worn, I'd estimate a 50W increase on my card based on GPU fan speed changes.

    (yes I'm into energy saving)

open all prize cards with 1 click of a button is my most requested.

(the following may already be a feature so i appologise if so, i dont use home that much) and are very much minor requests.

the ability to have a cinema screen that we can resize in our home.
the ability to have an arcade cabinet in our home (i would have no problem sourcing the roms myself... and MAME is open source so no problems there)
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR :)

There’s already arcade cabinets, but they only function as extended monitors. As for the rest I agree with.

I like almost everything posted so far, especially DaftnDirect's suggestion for a monitor auto sleep, I turn it off manually and then back on when I remove the HMD, but an auto option would be awesome.
Also, Zenbane's OP would be awesome, it would be great if the devs could somehow make it work in the Rift.

Other than the great ideas already put forward, just a couple of mobility suggestions inside Home 2.0:
    - With turning, an option to have one thumb stick turn and the other strafe (same as in most games).  As it is now, you either have turn on and both thumbs turn, or if you disable turning, both thumbs will strafe.  Being able to do both would make positioning yourself and moving around a little less awkward.
    - If the ability to strafe and turn simultaneously were implemented, a second turn option with higher speed, to match the speed of turning with both thumb sticks.

If I really have to sit and look at the ship and more, I'd like some binoculars  B)
Can't have a bow, a gun and no binoculars right?  ;) Ok, I'd settle for a monocular telescope too.
(Do let me know if I've missed them in some sub-menu)
Intel i7 7700K (4.5 GHz); MSI GeForce GTX 1080 8GB Gaming X (oc 2100 MHz boost, 11 Ghz ram); 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 MHz; MSI Z270I Gaming Pro Carbon AC (VR-Ready) mainboard; Samsung 960 Evo M.2 SSD + Toshiba P300 HD; Windows 10 OS; Oculus Rift CV1 - nearly always using super sampling 2.0.

    - A 2nd turning option that is faster/double speed.  The turn is really slow, and feels monotonous if you don't get VR sick.

Actually, you CAN turn faster if you push left or right on BOTH thumbsticks simultaneously... Assuming you aren't holding anything in either hand.

It certainly wouldn't hurt for them to add more options / settings for movement, though!

    @CrashFu ;
Ah hehe cool thanks, I haven't done that as yet, good to know.  So now just Strafing, while being able to turn with the other thumb (and I guess if they implemented this, we'd be back to one thumb turning and need the speed tweak).
Thanks mate much appreciated.  I edited my post accordingly :).

either more external environments, or the ability to build and add them yourself

the ability to add sound, and trigger volumes to objects for importing, so you can have (for example) a Raptor that roars at you when you get too close (this won't be annoying AT ALL)

Well I think they should have free VR Porn available. And I hereby volunteer my good self and @vannagirl to star in these things.

Already say here, the strafe on one stick sound essential to me. It's a pain to maneuver like if you're parking a car when you want to be straight in front of something, frustrating and immersion breaker. Also, reading above and I understand now why I struggled so much yesterday trying to resize the flat TV screen, it's not possible right now! ;)

A small one : I like to be able to appear standing instead of seating when I'm seated. Things are too high and I'm much often seated. Don't want to go through parameters, change height etc. Just in Home a way to switch standing / seated. Avatar editor fixed this by lowering itself when you approach it so I guess they thought about this problem.

I want a battle table as I'm still missing it - that and the orrery would be awesome additions; I think I need to buy more games and play more (gee what a shame  )

I think it may be useful to allow SteamVR to be considered an app (albeit an external one) that you can select on your Core 2.0 home app pane.  This would allow you to switch over to the SteamVR home easier (some Steam apps still run best from there) and maybe allow you to end it properly with your touch controller Oculus Button.  I believe the latest WMR version allows you to do this.

The workaround for me right now is to just use the Core 2.0 Oculus Desktop (which I really like btw) and select my SteamVR shortcut.  Then later, use the Desktop Task Bar to exit Steam processes.  Actually this works pretty well.
Alienware 17r4 Laptop with i7-7700hq 2.8/3.6, 32 gb ram, gtx1060 w/6gb ram, 256gb ssd, 1tb hdd, Oculus Rift w/2x sensors.  Now using an Alienware Graphics Amplifier (AGA) with Zotac gtx1080ti Blower and Asus vg248qe 144hz external monitor.  All works great!

Also have a 64gb Oculus Go which I love for travel and quick VR Fixes.  Looking forward to the Quest!
