From Texas to London: A Samsung Odyssey Journey

Over the U.S. Thanksgiving Holiday, I sent our good friend @Shadowmask72 a brand new Samsung Odyssey+ and it's been quite fun witnessing how long it takes to get something from Texas to London. Measured in weeks, not days.

I didn't try the Odyssey+ myself, I just held the HMD and Controllers in my hands for a bit. I didn't want to hook it up and "soil it" before our beloved ShadowMask was able to break it in proper. My initial impressions just holding the HMD and Controllers was that there is a bit of bulkiness that isn't to my liking. I know that the Odyssey+ (much like the Vive Pro) offers visual improvements over the Rift, but in the end I still put comfort above all else. Granted, I tend to stay in VR for multiple hours at a time, so comfort becomes crucial.

Other than that, though, I have to say that the Odyssey+ is a sexy piece of equipment. Mr. Shadow had asked me to purchase and ship it to him, since no Retailers allow online purchasing to the UK. I was about to order it online from the Microsoft Store on his behalf when I realized that I can just drive to the Microsoft store here in town. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the MS Store was actually giving live demo's of the Oculus Rift that day. They used to give nonstop HTC Vive demo's. And they were offering the Odyssey+ at a reduced cost that day, so I'm surprised that MS didn't have it set up as a demo to push sales!

I remember how much Oculus was criticized for not having more demo's setup properly at Best Buy locations, and that problem involves two different organizations. But Microsoft sells Odyssey+ direct, so they have no real excuse as to why they would have a Rift or Vive demo setup in the absence of their own in-stock Windows Mixed Reality headsets.

Regardless of all that, I look forward to ShadowMasks' review of this fine looking HMD. Cheers!

Oh, i hope this mean MS will sell the Odyssey + over there in the UK at some point if they are selling them directly. 🙂

I'll send you my meat, Techy. It stays fresh during overseas travel. Tried, tested, and true.

Awesome stuff! @Shadowmask72  does great reviews matched only in detail to @Zenbane 's game reviews.

Also, serious question here, is there an import tax duty thing on importing sexy Texan cowboys to the UK? Asking for a friend.

Yes. I got charged £72 for VAT and a holding charge but no import duty actually. Yeh I am still experimenting with this so review will come once I have more hours under my wing. So far there is good and bad points as others already pointed out.  But at least this thread proves that Zelator does possess a kind side somewhere.

And there it is.  A genuine request for another poster's meat.  And he wants a go after Techy!
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

This is awesome by the way - I wish we had Microsoft stores you could walk in and buy things from.  Ridiculous.

If Zen had marked it as a GIFT then you wouldn't have had to pay anything I think, certainly not the VAT. B)
