I am biased.......... I fully admit that however i honestly think the 80's was one of the best (if not THE best) decades to grow up in.  Funnily enough i had this conversation yesterday with some friends and the wife as we are currently watching "Stranger Things" on TV.

but in general (where i lived at least - which wont be the same for all) crime was practically zero

rules were a lot more lax (ie i could go out with friends as an early teenager shooting tin cans with an air rifle,  now however... no one does that these days, again, not where i live anyway - and if they did they would be considered to be right scallies

You obviously didn't live on an estate like the one I lived on. Moved onto the estate in the late 1980's when I was around 15yrs old. I got my head kicked in the first week by some blokes who must of been in their late 30's, all because they decided they wanted the Chinese takeaway I'd ordered. Got my head kicked in a month later and had the videos I'd rented taken and if you wasn't getting kicked in for some other strange reason, then the stray dogs would have a go at chasing you and savaging you.

Must admit, it did me the world of good though. I learned to toughen up quickly..

Spent all of the 80's in Germany serving Her Majesty. The 60's and 70's were a better time to grow up in, imho - the end of the 80's was when it all started going wrong. The 90's were just solidifying the situation at the end of the 80's and don't get me started on the noughties! 😛

Yup, I agree. Don't get me started on Thatcher lol

Music started do go downhill in the mid to late 80s too. Less guitars and more keyboards being used by everyone, even great bands from the 60s and 70s. Then you have hip hop and rap music too. Bloody awful.

These magazines ..
Living in denmark these were hard to come by back then, and expensive as hell as well.
All my interest in computers and technology comes from this .. Such a gem!
Got a few hours at work today to browse some of these.... Best paid hours ever ! .. So much nostalgia !
Felt like I was 15 again Heart

Iol, when I read the Subject for this thread I was expecting something entirely different. Even some of BigMike's word choices elude to it...

Thankfully not..... To be fair the village where i grew up is still ok.......... but totally different (as in not as good) as it used to be.   For any brits out there, it used to be much like "heartbeat" but now is more like "brookside".

I didnt receive my 1st proper beating till i was 18 - which would have been 1994 and that was some little runt and his mates. The runt was apparently angry he did not get accepted into the army and tried to take it out on me.  he failed and i piledrove him into the kerb. Sadly his mates who were sqaddies had more luck 😞

I have a rather large collection of retro computer stuff on my Google Drive. Manuals (mostly for Amiga games) and software and some emulators. A lot of it still works, mostly with the help of DOSBox. There's a lot of Spectrum stuff, too. Also a long list of early Windows games.

If anyone wants access - just message me. 😉

I had a old world of spectrum compilation - 2 CDs with just about every piece of software ever made on the rubber keyed beauty.  it got lost when our house was renovated.
luckily internet sites have all the stuff i could ever need 🙂

Yup, I probably bought the same 2 CDs donkey's years ago. I still have them somewhere I think. Also included a Speccy emulator on each one too. This is what I used to replay Elite in the 90s and 00s every few years.
