Can't Install Software. Keeps telling me to restart no matter what I try. PLEASE HELP

HIGHFIRE911
Honored Guest
I bought an Oculus to try out some VR gaming 3 days ago. I have yet to get past the installation of the software. Countless hours and I have made no progress! Someone please help!

Things that I have tried:

I have fully turned off Windows defenders firewalls and real time scanning. And pretty much anything and everything I can switch to off.

I have done a fresh start for windows 10 and I have done the reset this PC option. Both times keeping file data.

This also got rid of all my apps such as MSI afterburner, cupid, cpuz, ect. for the cleanest windows session possible.

I have booted into safe mode and cleared all things oculus. Gone through the app data cleared the local files and cleared all the cache and pretty much clear everything oculus and I verify it by searching my C drive for "oculus"

I have cleaned my registry out using CCleaner trial

I have contacted support and after reviewing my logs this was the reply I got

"Hello Matthew,

I am following up on your conversation with Luke about problems installing the Oculus software.

After reviewing the setup log you sent, I'm seeing a possible issue with space on the destination drive. Although the installed software only needs around 12 GB of space, the installer uses more than that to create temporary files.

Are you installing the apps to a different location than the C: drive? If not, please try that and see if the installation completes.

If you're still having difficulty, you can try installing all of the software onto a different drive, as long as it is eligible (NTFS format, basic partition).

  1. Go to the location where the Oculus Setup file is in File Explorer
  2. Type in the address bar “cmd”
  3. Press Enter
  4. With the command prompt open, type the following: OculusSetup.exe /drive:X (where X is the letter of the destination drive)
    • If drive: does not work, please try drive=

Please let me know if these steps allow you to install the software successfully.

Best regards,

Elspeth

I have a 250gb Samsung NVMe M.2 with 180gb free and I was using my 4TB Seagate 5200rpm for the app storage.

Also I could not get the command prompt she sent me to work. It kept telling me this C:\WINDOWS\system32>OculusSetup.exe /drive:D
'OculusSetup.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Computer specs: Ryzen 1700x, Asus B350 prime, 32gb DDr4 2133mhz, GTX 1070 FE, Samsung 250gb NVMe M.2, WD 1TB 5200rpm, Seagate 4TB 5200rpm

I have also included my Setup logs below.

I had same problem. My son who works in IT said my net connection was not fast enough. It seems the Oculas server keeps disconnecting you if you dont have a really fast link. Went round his house and wham! stright in no problem.

In order for the command prompt to work you need to have the folder location or be in the folder in which you downloaded the file "OculusSetup.exe"

So, say my username is "Bob" and that I've downloaded "OculusSetup.exe" to my "C:\Users\Bob\Downloads" folder (which is the default download destination for the Google Chrome browser, I think).

You can do this 2 ways now:
1. You can do as the tech said by navigating to the downloads folder (or whichever folder you have the .exe file in); If given my hypothetical setup, after I type "cmd" into the address bar while I'm looking at my "C:\Users\Bob\Downloads" folder and hitting enter, my command prompt black screen that pops up should have the line "C:\Users\Bob\Downloads>" in which I can then type "OculusSetup.exe /drive:D" to make it the line now say "C:\Users\Bob\Downloads>OculusSetup.exe /drive:D" and then this should work upon hitting the enter key

2. You can open up a command prompt from anywhere (easiest is hitting the "Windows" Key --> typing "cmd" --> press enter) and input "C:\Users\Bob\Downloads\OculusSetup.exe /drive:D"

Hopefully it is just this command prompt misunderstanding. Kind of silly that Oculus wants to have ppl deal with command prompt syntax instead of just asking people where they want to install their software in the setup.

I don't know what error code -532462766 from the oculus-driver.exe means. Perhaps an Oculus person will tell you, or perhaps they implied it with the comment: "I'm seeing a possible issue with space on the destination drive"

Do you have the directory: C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-drivers  ?
Is the file oculus-driver.exe in it?
If so, can you click on it and does it start?
There are a few problems it could have (permission, messed up file, need to create and run as a different user, slow connection, etc) but this would be a start

That was the issue when I had to use the old cpu hack for the old Xeon Quad Duo 3GHz which appears to be now on their block list. This happened back in November for 1.32 update. Hopefully it was just a major bug they should look into.

Thx for this hint - but still no success 😞 Really sad that I uninstalled that software as I can´t reinstall it.
Never had an issue with my system - everything running fine till I couldn´t install the latest big screen update.
Now I can´t even run any other VR program...
Tried the root thing with the newer 1.36 - still the same piece of .....
Really annoying

Ok - my fault!

Tiny little helper called "Windows Firewall Controll" does have a security feature to prevent other software from setting firewall rules! That´s what happend in my case - and conflicted with the oculus setup and with bigscreens setup too!
So, with this option disabled everything runs flawless!

Regards

EDIT:
It was NOT oculus fault! Indeed their kind and fast support was a great help to solve this selfmade problem!
