As in, can it run games and apps that were made for the original Rift? Yes!   Even though it uses a different method for tracking, I don't think an individual program can even tell it apart from the original Rift.
It's hard being the voice of reason when you're surrounded by unreasonable people.

Shouldn't be an issue. You can already use the Vive and WMR headsets to play Rift games. The controllers maybe a bit wonky, but the HMD itself doesn't face any issues as far as I know. Given the Rift S has basically the same controllers, I don't think there will be any issues.

I mean all the Hardware that is really running the game is your PC. An upgrade (if you can call it that) to the Rift S is not going to make your PC any faster or slower. They will use the same store and applications so you are good. They added the top camera on the Rift S to make it backward compatible with the original Rift.
