The Official Films Thread

Well bollocks, we've got a telly thread so I thought I'd create one for films too.

I'm currently working my way through Movies With A Twist Collection 3 which I downloaded years ago from TPB. All of those torrents are now dead which is a shame because I didn't get around to downloading Collection 4. I'm downloading all of those separately which is a hassle but will be worth it in the end going by 1-3 so far.

Am in the middle of watching Law Abiding Citizen, I think I've seen it before but i was so long ago I've forgotten what happens.

The problem with watching these films knowing that there's a twist makes it easy to work out what the twist in question is so probably better if you watch them without that knowledge lol

Here's a list of some of my all-time favourite films of all-time in no particular order:

Brazil
The Life Of Brian
The Holy Grail
The Meaning Of Life
Star Wars
The Empire Strikes Back
Lifeforce (a terrible film but the female lead vampire spends most of it naked lol)
All Lethal Weapons
All Die Hards
Every Dirty Harry Film
The Jungle Book (the Disney original)
Pi
Falling Down (just for the McDonalds scene lmfao)
Silent Running
Logan's Run
All 60s-70s Planet Of The Apes
Soylent Green

Am going to stop there otherwise this post is going to be HUGE lol

I received the bluray 2K restoration of Andrei Tarkovsky's Stalker in the mail today (had to order from england, luckily my bluray player is region free).

This should be interesting. The first (and only) time I watched it years ago, I was very disappointed. I was hoping for something like the Stalker games, but it was closer to the book (which I also liked, but not as much as the games). But now I understand it, I think I can go into it in a different frame of mind. Looking back on what I remember, I think I can appreciate it more this time, knowing not to expect roaming mutants, gunfights with the military, horror, etc.

Kind of like the first time I watched Crank High Voltage (hadn't seen the first one). I stopped watching after half an hour, it was one of the worst things I'd ever seen. But later I remembered the Feast horror trilogy.  They are cheap, stupid and over the top at trying to be offensive, but then you find out many of the cast/crew are related and they were just having so much fun making stupid horror. So I rewatched Crank High Voltage with "everybody just having fun rather than trying to make a quality movie" as my frame of mind, and I loved it.

If you haven't seen Feast 1-3, give them a chance. 🙂 The first one was cool (winner of the Project Greenlight contest), the next two were "well, we have some money left over, lets just go crazy".

The running guy is the brother of the director, the baby he's carrying is his real life kid. One of the women on the roof (black haired biker who calls him a piece of shit) is his real wife (and mother of the baby) and the old guy on the roof is his (and director's) real father.

I'm looking forward to seeing Shazam, the trailer just looks damn fun. I'm really not much of a super hero movie fan, I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting for End Game. I watch most of them when they come on Foxtel (australian cable tv, crappy SD quality) or later on Netflix. The only ones I ever bought on DVD were Iron Man 1, Batman Begins and Guardians Of The Galaxy. I still haven't even seen Winter Soldier or Black Panther.

@RuneSR2 - I did warn you it was a quite disturbing and made "The Silence of the Lambs" look like a comedy in comparison 😛

The movie had me wincing and I couldn't tell you the last move I watched that did this. I think a film called "Wolf Creek" and also one called "Hostel" had me wincing in parts to for different reasons.

I never liked torture porn style films like Hostel. I do like very graphic and violent movies, when they are over the top crazy and fast. The head exploding in Scanners, the guy pulled apart by chains in Hellraiser, any movie that has creative ways to cut a person in half (like Johnny Mnemonic's diagonal cut and slide), but I don't like prolonged suffering.

I watched The Basement on Netflix yesterday and it was pretty good but a bit too predictable. Worth watching though. Quite a clever idea but I'm pretty sure I've seen a similar idea in a film before.

Same goes for The Lazarus Effect too. I'm pretty sure I've seen the same sort of idea in another film. The Lazarus Effect was quite slow to get going but worth sticking with it.

I have to be careful when I read your posts in this thread in case you give the plot away 😛

Went to see Captain Marvel. Not that good. It seemed boring and all over the place. Sure it had its funny parts and explained a few things but otherwise something about it seemed rather BLA.

Oh yeah, that's the other marvel one I haven't seen yet.
Of course the best super hero movie of all is Hentai Kamen. 🙂

I just finished watching Stalker.
Yeah, definitely a very different experience to the first time, I appreciate it more now.
So many great LONG takes with slowly panning or zooming cameras. Don't watch if you are impatient.
Fascinating movie if you give it a chance.

I just finished Season 1 of Black Summer on Netflix. A new zombie show that is very very good! It is more like the 28 Days later zombies, and focuses on violence and murder. Highly recommended.

Next movie on my list - I'd like the steelbook edition, but this seem extremely expensive (even if it's 4K + 3D) - is the disc made of gold? - Did Jesus touch and bless the disc?

I hope the price will come down after the movie is released April 22...

Or Black Summer it is - I'm slightly getting tired of zombie movies - or movies where the main characters can't talk - or can't see, but if Zenbane says Black Summer is good... - I did see the trailer last night, but ended up watching Maddie, which was kinda boring - I'm pretty sure she won't be found in S1E8 😉

I watched all of black Summer in one sitting. Started and ended in the same day. I couldn't pull myself away.

It isn't a film though, it's a TV series. Zombane posted in the wrong thread  😛

Now this is what I call a Zombie series. I'm only on episode 2, but I understand why you watched them all in one day. This kept me up until 2 am watching this and I think I'll watch as much as I can come Sunday. Best series I've seen for a long time.
