Hi Everybody, New here I haven't had a chance to setup my rift yet as I'm on vacation. When I made this account I allowed my phone to auto fill in the fields. Unfortunately the real name part is incorrect and I don't see a way to fix it.
Second question, can I install rift software and games on my D drive as my C ssd is nearly full
Thanks

(P.S. You can tell us. What's the name?)
You can choose the D drive when you install Oculus. If you picked the wrong drive, then uninstall reinstall.

So let me get this straight: the full/real name CANNOT be changed, even though it "doesn't really affect anything"
Why?!? What practical reason can there be for not allowing users to change the name? Originally we could not change our email address or username, but, eventually (after a very long time of waiting), Oculus added this basic functionality, so it seems like it wouldn't be that hard to allow real name changes too. I thought maybe Oculus simply didn't know that people really do want to be able to change their real name, but this forum has multiple threads with people trying to change their real name only to be told that they "can't".
Dear Oculus, please be aware that a person's real name is VERY meaningful to your users and there are many life events in which a person NEED to change their name in an account (transitioning genders, marriage, divorce, adoption, etc).
Sincerely,
Someone who wants to change their "real name" as displayed in their Oculus account for no other reason than because I should be able to but cannot

Hey @Sharpfish, you can get a Cockulus Rift T-Shirt on ebay

That probably doesn't help.
You shape your identity since you are born, it's your choice, and if you have to change it online because you never liked the real you and suddenly you feel like you are owed the world... then that's your problem .. no everyone else's.
Wow ... Computer, end Rant .. and exit arch.

I have managed to change my real name successfully. You will have to connect your Oculus account with your Facebook account. The faulty part of this is that you will have to set a such real name as your Facebook name, that of which you won't be able to change for 60 days due to Facebook regulations, but it works.
I am 100% believer in free speech - it is just that the internet seems to have conflated hate speech with free speech and given people an easy system for egoism, narcissism and group thinking which for some reason really empowers negativity in people.
I myself am lucky enough to have been born in the 80s and by the time Social Media was really starting to hit I was in my twenties and already a genuine and empathetic person in the real world. So for me - there was never a thought to be intentionally mean to people on the internet simply because of anonymity.
I am so glad that I didn't have to grow up with the internet and social media as an accepted normal day-to-day part of life - and still even have memory of a time before the internet. The 90s seem so simple to me when I think back on it. LOL
I don't mean to be insensitive, because these days we all have to be caring, sharing beings who understand everyone's problems.
However, being transgender isn't something that pops up and surprises you overnight. When you made your account with Oculus you surely had some inclination about your identity and probably had already thought about your alivename (is that a thing?).
I don't believe that any companies need to have a system in place that allows switching of names. The onus is on YOU to change your name officially/legally and then go about having your name "corrected" wherever you use it.
Please contact Oculus (through a support ticket) to see what they can do for you...........

The term you're looking for is "name", "preferred name", or "real name".
Your last two statements directly contradict each other. You're right that it's my responsibility to have the name corrected where I use it. It's also the responsibility of companies to provide a reasonable way to do that. Oculus does not, and that is fully on them. I sold my Rift because I didn't like what Oculus was doing as a company, and this definitely contributed to that.
@DevClever1 If this can be done online instead of in the app, that would be preferred (I run Linux full-time now). I might try deleting my account instead though.
@cybereality Have y'all even bothered to create a bug ticket for this? It is a bug, plain and simple. A bug that contributed to me leaving Oculus and telling my friends that they don't care about trans people. That they should go to another company because then maybe they wouldn't be treated so dismissively as this.
Yeah, okay, you got that right, but I had to google the millennial's term "cisgender". Sorry for being in the majority for once.
You seem to think that you need a special attention level because of being transgender. Don't forget that the issue you have is not being able to change your "real name" with your Oculus account.
This is not unique, larger bodies of people change their names. Females get married and change their name. Adopted children sometimes change their name, the list goes on. Does this mean that Oculus don't care about married females or about adopted people? You're a drama queen or king.
Also, you don't need to attach a new age, millennial label to me. I am a male, no need for "cisgender".
Please don't wait another 12 months to reply, the suspense would kill me.
