Disturbing trend in the Oculus store

So I am noticing a disturbing trend within the Oculus store. Games seem to be released at full price at a demo-like state. These "full" games usually only have the bare minimum requirements to be considered a game. Is 1 level a game. No matter how good that 1 level is it is can it really be a game? So what happens? Demo-like games get released at full price and they only get updates and more content if enough people bought that game...This is setting up to be an avalanche and I cant be the only one who notices.

Can you name some games that do this? I haven't bought every game on the store, but I can't say that I've experienced this with anything I've bought on the Quest store.

Not he doesnt. But they are not "demo" length - not even beat-saber - unless you are playing the demo versions some how? Also, even though I love to see longer base games - the problem is these games just seem less play time than what is usually out there for 2D or 3D work because of time table base. Games made for VR usually take more resources/time to create then tradition games. Even then - tradition games were not that long either only really lasting 4-5 hours worth of game play. Most demos can be finish in 30mins or less - only reason they take longer is because of a learning curve such as a puzzle or a game feature/design.

Sheesh...Beatsaber only had like 20 songs on it when it was released..with no way of getting more..only after enough people complained did it rise in number of songs...but guess what...if no one complains nothing gets done...Now do you want to help me or do you want to help them scam kids.

I’m sorry, which of those games has only one level?

Beat Saber has the same content as the PCVR version; 20 songs that can be played in campaign or solo mode, several difficulty levels and game modifiers, global leaderboards, without even considering the DLC song packs that add more of the above. I’ve put dozens of hours into it, and haven’t touched all the content or DLCs yet. You may not care for it, but it’s one of the highest rated VR games on any platform.

You might find some less polished or unfinished VR games on an uncurated platform like Steam, but I don’t see how you can really level the same complaint against the Quest store.

    This is a BIG game!

"Short" games on the store usually state that they are "Early access" so you know that it is only a level or two, but then on release you get the rest of the game for free.

I'm sorry, what? No one is scamming anyone. But if you don't understand how business works - then you should take some classes. A company has to make a little money off their products or else why create the next installment or pay their workers a fair wage? That's one of key problems places like China faces today because no one is paid fair for their work witch causes other issues around the world. The increase song count because people love the game - but you also have to understand their total sales were not match to the growth of the game either. Once more people bought the game - this allow them to increase the song list later down the road because they could afford to do so. More or less they didn't have to give out more - but they did - witch is great. But you also need song license - so DLC is created - for 1 allow the company to use the song in their game/content and 2 for the work that has to happen to make it work for the content.

I was assuming he was specifically complaining about games on the Quest store, since this was posted in the Quest subforum. I could understand a general complaint that too many VR games are early access, but the Quest store has none of that.

Look guys. lets take one example..That new fishing game...is $20 for 1 fishing level and it shows you that someday the game might have like 20 more free levels someday...but for the moment its $20 for 1 level.  How is that justified?

According to the store description it comes with 15 locations initially. Is that not true? I haven't played it, but it seems to have high ratings from user reviews.

Perhaps this is, in truth, a philosophical question?
    Think about it...
Isn't every game that has ever existed really just one single game with one single level?
Do any games have a true beginning or actual end?

yes the fishing game has 15 levels all in korea....I guess i just have a higher standard than others..  I have returned Vader game, superhot, moss, Racket nx, the wizards, and Rush...Ok lets switch the example to Racket NX...one simple boring level is both the single player and the multiplayer experience.

Doubtful. It really sounds like maybe others just have more disposable income than you do. If we're being honest. Because this sounds more like an excess amount of concern over spending money than anything else. Moss and SuperHot are amazing experiences. If you returned them... then that has way more to do with spending than gaming standards.

None of this seems genuine. Especially considering all the acclaim that both games have received. Considering everything you have said, I do believe that this is more about you being upset with the general cost of games compared to whatever disposable income you have for such things. And claiming that great experiences like SuperHot and Moss are "boring" and don't meet your "high standards" definitely seems like a diversionary tactic.

Flying a personal jet can seem boring to someone who can't afford it.

please explain to me how superhot was supposed to be fun.  its like playing with a bunch of manikins trying to play red light green light...I do love puzzles but this did nothing for me...Have you ever played it.  I think people were just so excited to have an actual game for the Quest that they bought it with no questions asked..

Unless it's, with a few exceptions, a AAA game that happens to have VR support, its all "Early Access". Its the nature of the beast with all emerging tech.

Statistically, more than 97% of people who can afford a private jet, don't fly them. Boredom doesn't factor in, because they can also afford a  private pilot.
Statistically more than 97% of private jet pilots find their job to be exciting because they could never afford to buy their own jet.

Quest is incredibly cheap. Quest is nowhere near what a "high end enthusiast" would aim for. Compared to $1,000 headsets out there. Hell, I paid over $800 for the original Rift + Touch Controllers. Plus the $1,000+ cost of a machine to run a PCVR headset.

Quest is for those on a budget. But the software is still priced for those with a higher disposable income. And it seems that is where your problem resides.

I beat SuperHot on the Rift. Long before Quest was even available for purchase. It seems like you are oversimplifying what SuperHot provides due to how much it costs.
How about this: Name one single VR Experience that was over $30 that you feel was worth the price.

Maybe try researching the game before deciding to buy it...like watch a few minutes of gameplays on youtube...there's pretty much a video for every single game ever released.

"Early Access" means it is not yet fully completed, it is in a preliminary form. The developers will be adding more content, characters, story, etc. But if you buy game that is early access, you understand it's not yet completed. If you want the completed game, wait for the grand opening. If you buy it before it is completed it will seem to be incomplete.

can you not use your own songs on beat saber like on the PC version?
as for pingpong...... its table tennis.... what more is there? does it matter if you dont have heaps of locations and what not, all it needs is decent ball physics, competitive AI and ideally multiplayer support.

if you REALLY want to see a games store full of unfinished crap with an average low quality threshold look at the mire that is steam!.

Beatsaber, for more songs just use sidequest (google is your friend) to add as many different songs as you like..

yes..sidequest is nice...but they have been updating the quest like once every 2 weeks and every 2 weeks i have to redo it...almost not worth it...games worth over $30....only beatsaber..Space pirate trainer if it had a little more variety...but space pirate trainer and drop dead are both worth more than the $15 asking price..Tilt brush is close as well...
