Oculus Rift S not connecting / not detected

reivaxrm
Honored Guest
I've received my new Oculus Rift S two days ago and the only thing that I've got is disappointment.
The setup program does not detect the headset. I plug the USB 3.0 connection and nothing happens. No error or message appears in the Windows device manager. Obviously, the same result if I connect the displayport some seconds later.
Windows updated, USB, graphics card, motherboard drivers updated. Oculus drivers uptaded using oculus-driver app. All to the last version and absolutely no activity when the setup softare is waiting for the headset.
I've reinstalled Windows and the Oculus setup software many times. I've even tried it only connecting the headsed alone and all the other USB 3.0 ports with nothing connected.
All my USB 3.0 ports work perfectly with any other device. I'm afraid that the headset that I've received is dead.
Please, can someone help me? Thank you very much.

Good luck with the next headset I guess.
They all have similar faults or issues I.E. none of them are plug n play though the S was close to that for me.

WAAAGH!

I use the Oculus rift s and have the appropriate drivers
installed on my PC. However, following the initial boot up of my PC the device
is not recognised. I then run a package called Reimage and can see it has reset
in device manager. Downside: Oculus then requires me to go through the setup procedures
each time. I have to follow these procedures every time I boot up my PC. But it works.

I have spoken to Reimage who have stated that the matter will
not be attributed to their software which only repairs Windows. Also, the
problem started before I installed Reimage. Luckily it is this software that is
allowing me to use the Oculus following the procedures previously mentioned.

I initially had the Rift CV1 which gave me no problems. When I
got the Rift S, I installed it accordingly with up to date drivers etc using their
install software method. It worked OK until I restarted my PC. Then I noticed
that the Rift was not shown as installed in the device manager. Instead there
was the yellow flag showing uninstalled. I checked for viruses on my PC,
updated windows and even went as far as to reinstall windows 10; yet the same
issue remained. When it does work, the Oculus runs well on my very up to date
i5 machine with a very high spec Video card. I am not sure what it can be and
think perhaps it is a Window compatibility issue. Possible one of their latest updates causing the problem.

Oculus are looking at my logs which hopefully will
lead to a solution for me and others suffering this problem.

Update:-

Thanks Oculus for all your swift
help. A good product well supported and on occasion misunderstood by some out there.

Oculus Response:-

So I have reviewed both files you have provided and
thank you as this shows me what is changing before and after the program runs.

This is what I found from your Log files:

From the log files "Not working state"

1WMGH520B29285 is connected to: Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB
Enhanced Host Controller

From the log files "Working state"

1WMGH520B29285 is connected to: Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller

When I checked the USB under the component tab on
system information I see your have Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controllers
and the Intel(R) 7 Series USB host controller.

I would like you to try the following since the
ReImage program is doing this upon booting up:

Uninstall
the Intel(R) 7 Series drivers and install Microsoft drivers:

 Open
Device Manager

 Right-click
on the Intel(R) 7 Series card

 Select
Uninstall Driver.

 Restart
computer

 Allow
Windows to install USB drivers automatically or select the Microsoft driver
through the device manager under the USB controller

Bingo!! It works.

I hope that this helps others out there who may be having the same problem.

right there with you, no matter what I do it's just getting worse.

There are some serious issues with this and Oculus doesn't seem to give a shit.

Bought mine last week and it has lost connection twice already and it took me a lot of messing about to get it working again.  It has me worried that I made the wrong choice when buying.

I'm having a similar problem. It worked for a few minutes, then after trying to launch a steam game it crashed and never recognized my USB 3.0 again. I tried the suggestion for unplugging then replugging the cable on the headset itself several times, checked my usb 3.0 drivers, all fails.

I've looked around and it seems to be a common issue and it seems there's never a one size fits all fix for these usb 3.0 issues.

After having this same problem for some weeks I bought an external "powered" USB3.0 hub. Plugged this hub into a USB3.0 port of my PC and plugged my Rift S headset into the powered hub. Since then I have never had a problem.
It would seem this issue is due to the headset trying to draw too much power from the motherboard USB ports.
Using an external powered hub takes away the low power problem.
Good Luck and hope this helps all others suffering this problem.
