Interesting observation @OmegaM4N - I think these points may hold water, but recently with recent departures from Oculus we are hearing stories that Microsoft and OculusVR may have fallen out over "creative differences" - though the companies on the surface still support joined content work, the reality seems that the working style of OculusVR and the projections on what was promised from VR and what it had achieved at that point (CV1) left MS feeling they needed to take a step back (as we saw with Samsung). I agree that the situation with their WinMR range would have also had a part to play. Now we wait to see if this same "creative difference" will manifest itself with the Lenovo relationship.

Oh most certainly, i assume there was some kind of falling out once i saw that they were partnering with Lenovo and Sony,(to use that halo design), but saying that Oculus did not do the Rift S any good by making their own supposed standalone Quest now able to play PCVR games via a cable, so i imagine that the Rift S will be the last iteration from that partnership as it seems Lenovo are now making their own standalone VR headset, and i wonder if these standalone thridparty headsets will also allow PCVR streaming, it's going to be a interesting year to see who does what and when as i would most certainly be up for a third party standalone vR HMD that was as comfortable as the CV1, as the weight of the Quest made the system just useless for me, and i think the CV1 is to blame for that due to just how blasted comfortable it is to wear, curse you CV1 for being so comfortable. lol

Agree @OmegaM4N  - when I read about the Lenovo partnership with Varjo for future PCVR, I kinda wrote off any future Rift-S development. Also the news that Lenovo is one of the factors in the original logjam in fulfilling Quest orders (as one of the fabricators) kinda puts some pieces of the puzzle together. I wonder if there is a serious split over Quest-Link or if this can be salvaged, though the deal with Varjo seems serious.

The ergonomics on CV1 were some of the best, I can see why that team were headhunted and left OculusVR, explaining why the Quest got it so wrong. It will be interesting to see how comfortable the new Samsung headset will be in comparison to the Quest, especially as it will have more power.

It would seem that with the rumors on the Facebook VR / AR project, and the possibility of a new restructuring of both Facebook and OculusVR in the next few months we may get a better idea of what will happen to Half Dome 3 and if it will get to see the light of day, or if OculusVR will once again changes its focus.

I think for many of the CV1 owners, they are living on borrowed time now there warranties have expired and it will be interesting if they will be drawn to a Valve or HTC solution as a interim fallback?

Why on earth would ANYONE go with an HTC headset? Index, perhaps, if they're willing to spend an extra £560 to get one instead of a Quest or Rift S but I can't see anyone in their right mind going for a Vive Pro or Vive Cosmos.

And going by the numbers given by the latest Steam Survey (which are biased against the Rift line of headsets anyway because there'll be Rift owners that don't use Steam) it's looking like a good few OG Rift owners have decided to switch to the Rift S rather than buying another headset.

I grabbed a Vive in sale just before they were discontinued so i am just waiting until the knuckle controllers come back into stock and then the VIVE will be my default goto VR HMD, that is all that is keeping my with the CV1 at present, those cracking vr controllers, the wands are just horrible with those trackpads.........then next year i will look to see what is happening VR wise and if nothing then i will either pop for a Vive pro HMD or just grab the Index HMD, and seeing as i will already have the lighthouses and knuckles then it should not break the bank, and then my move to the dark side will be complete. lol

I think we all understand your resentment of HTC @snowdog - but like the above poster and others, some people are prepared to use a HTC VIVE Pro (or get a cheap VIVE) and use that as a stop gap, does not mean you support what HTC represents, just that this product fills in a space that has been abandoned by OculusVR at this point. Sometimes its important not allow resentment for a product to blinker the realities of the situation mate.  B)

Well if my Oculus CV1 became faulty I'm not sure what I would do tbh. The cable's looking bad on my CV1 and I know I can't replace that unless I want to pay some ridiculous price on ebay for a used one. The headphones are also broken so not sure how much longer it will last.

With no announcement from Oculus about stand alone PC -VR for a while now, I think I would maybe have to look at getting a Vive just for the base stations. That way I could maybe upgrade to the index later one when I had a bit more money. I wouldn't touch the HTC Cosmos in it's current state though.

I'm hoping to hear something about PC -VR from Oculus before my Oculus CV1 goes totally kaput.

Agree @RedRizla with no official announcement in such a time, and the Rift-S not hitting the mood music with the majority of the PCVR community its a tough one to go from a 'Porsche too a Fiat!' I know the claimed numbers on the Steam chart shows Rift-S migration, but there are questions. But as long as Index offers a high-end, and Rift-S a middle ground then that seems to be the state of play for the next six months.... unless Samsung or Panasonic, or even Sony has something in the wings?

In my opinion RedRizla, selling my CV1 and getting the Rift S was such a great move.
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

Yes some like the Rift S, but I like my CV1 more due to the tracking. I also like the oled displays, but Lcd also has some benefits in certain area's. I'm not sure what will become of the Rift S in future because Oculus don't really talk about it or stand alone PC -VR.

My next headset is going to have to be future proof and last me a good few years so I'm in no rush right now to buy anything. I'm not someone who has a great deal of money and I won't rush in to my next VR headset purchase without taking everything into account.

I'm glad the Oculus Quest is selling well, but it's not for me. I'm not really interested in mobile VR that connects to a PC right now. Comfort is also another factor for me.
