The "I'm effin Quarantined" Megathread

Governments across the Globe are in Quarantine, so I figured that this community could use a thread to discuss our first-hand experience of its impact. As a side note, I never would have guessed that a global pandemic would be the primary driver to getting VR more mainstream!
😛

For me, I had taken a long break from VR. I have maybe engaged in VR for 1 hour ever 2-3 weeks. It's been that way for nearly 6 months now. Mostly because I feel that I've experienced so much since I first acquired my Rift in 2016; I got to the point that everything (even new AAA titles) started to feel like 'more of the same.' This is something that has impacted me before. For example, I began gaming with the Atari 2600 as a kid, moved on to NES, SNES, Sega, and eventually PC Gaming. But I took a very long break from gaming (over 5 years) because I hit a point where everything on every gaming platform felt like a regurgitation of something I've done before.

However, now that I'm stuck home for at least 2 weeks during quarantine... it's time to jump back on to the fray!

So...
  1. What games/experiences will you be engaging in with VR?
  2. What non-VR activities will be occupying your time?
  3. Are you one of the people who can work from home during quarantine? Or is this pandemic negatively impacting your job?
  4. Are you hoarding food and toilet paper?

I'll answer first:
  1. I will be (finally) completing SkyrimVR. Before I took my VR "break," I had already completed both DLC's in SkyrimVR, and I'm already near the end of the main quest. After that, I will be loading up Stormland.
  2. I'm playing through Divinity Original Sin for the first time, in preparation for the upcoming release of Baldur's Gate 3. Beyond software, I will be doing lots of exercise.. Gotta keep up the conditioning!
  3. Since I'm a software engineer who has been working from home primarily for at least the past 10 years, this quarantine will be... more of the same.
  4. I'm a non-hoarder, but wondering if I will regret it.

I've been on a self imposed VR hiatus due to having twin toddlers who are highly motivated to destroy everything including themselves. 😄  But I just dusted off my Quest yesterday to try and get back into the swing of it. We're down to only essential personnel at work and everyone else gets to "work from home" IE get paid for doing nothing. Sadly I'm deemed essential personnel so I'm still working like normal but at least I'm in there alone most of the time lol.

I just ordered a link cable and hoping that it will work good enough for me to jump into all of the titles I've missed over the last 6+ months. Asgard's Wrath, Stormlands etc.

Also, for those with a gaming rig, you may want to consider using your machine to help support research against diseases, including Coronavirus using Folding@home.

I have it installed and I'm letting it run.

Yep, 2080ti and 9700k cpu here. So I`m in especially as I`m 72, so vested interest there.
20 to 40 year olds, please stop hoarding toilet rolls, sanitisor etc. You will probably get a bad cold at worst, I however have a high chance of it killing me as I`m diabetic. We have no disinfectant at home and currently 2 toilet rolls left for me and the missus. Is this really the most selfish generation ever or am I wrong?

I’m still working normally so far, but they’ve closed the schools and daycares, and cancelled most public events and gatherings. We’ve still got things relatively under control in Canada, but they may recommend more closures of workplaces in the next week. The panic-shopping hasn’t been too bad here, but I did have to try four stores before I managed to find toilet paper.

If I do end up staying home for a while, I’ve got Doom Eternal to look forward to on Friday, followed by Half-Life:Alyx next week, so I’ll have plenty to keep me busy. In the meantime, I’ve been playing around with side-loaded ports of old games on my Quest; Lambda1VR (Half-Life 1), QuakeQuest, and Quake2Quest. The guy who made those is now working on porting classic Doom, so I’ve dug up all my old Doom WAD files and have been playing around with them in the GZDoom engine port. I tried the PCVR mod yesterday—it was a pretty fun way to re-experience the old Doom games.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Business as usual here. Although I am on the danger list if I do get it, I've been avoiding too much contact for a week or so now. Last time I went out, got coughed in my face by three different people and accosted at a bar in a casino by some drunk fella.

I have little faith in humanity and our leaders to look out for at risk people so I am being vigilant. Playing DOOM Eternal right now and have my VR jaunts every now and then. If it gets to the point of full quarantine then there's just so much choice. A shame Cyberpunk 2077 got delayed.

I'm not in quarantine, but I'm staying away from people now. My lady friend who works in a hospital was given a mask and a suit 2 days ago due a patient being diagnosed with the virus. Trying to avoid my Mum who has a lung condition, but I was already doing that before this patient was in contact with someone I know.

I've mainly being playing the Witcher 3 having watched it on NetFlix and haven't really bothered with VR that much. Will still be playing VR in the future though when I'm done with the Witcher 3. Bloody virus is a really bad start to 2020. Hope they get a vaccine fast. Not good when you are trying to avoid people with underlying health conditions and they are already suffering.

I suspect this person I know will have to deal with a lot more cases so hats of to her. More tests need to be done more quickly so people can be protected in surroundings like this.

I'm down to my last 2 rolls so things could get stinky. The last bathroom refurb I did for a friend included a plumbed in douche... becoming pretty common which is a good thing if this is a sign of our ability to manage panic!

I've got a mig welder on order and all the accoutrements... will be teaching myself welding over the next couple weeks. Nothing to do with covid-19 unless the mobile welder I booked didn't show up for that reason!

Nice. I haven't tried mig, but I've done arc and oxy welding.
I'm more at home with soldering though.
(Electronics soldering, not sheet metal soldering, although I was ok at that too)

I haven't tried any welding so if I prove too ham-fisted to learn, there could be some reasonably priced second-hand stuff on the market soon, just need to get a load of off-cuts to practice on. I'm reasonably ok with electronics but I don't have the euqipment for the really small stuff. There's a limited demand for my skills in retirement... LVAC and traction DC design.

proper engineering 😉

@DaftnDirect - Just don't try to weld a car chassis like my mate did years ago and then drive down a part of the motorway to release some racing Pigeons on a trailer. Asshole didn't tell me what he had done and nearly killed me is all I'll say. Just make sure what your weld holds together 😄

Make sure you cover up. Not just for little bits of molten metal splattering around, but arc and mig welding give off large amounts of UV light, it will give you sunburn on exposed skin.

We're taking weekly shifts at coming to work and working from home.
It's an IT company, so most of us SHOULD be working from home, but our video conference setup is bottlenecking ffs.
