Same here. All non-essential shops must close tonight and police have powers to enforce it. No more than 2 people together outside of the home, family member only and for 1 exercise per day. Only other trips outside of the house are for essentials only.

No idea if DIY stores count as essentials, if not my car refurb comes to a halt pretty soon without cutting discs etc.

We already known the world is not full of sensible people. Sometimes people need to take into account what the stupid will do in order to come up with the best solution.

Yup, this country has been a mess for decades unfortunately. I personally put it down to parents and teachers not being able to discipline kids since the 90s as well as importing criminals from Eastern Europe due to the Balkans War during the same time period. That's when things started to go downhill I think. We're starting to veer down politics at this point though so probably best not to go into more details or debate it too much. Basically this country has been fucked for nearly 30 years.

I read a report yesterday that kids/teens had been coughing in the faces of pensioners, there's NO WAY that I would have done that sort of thing when I was a kid. I'd get a bloody good slap. A parent can't do that these days though thanks to bleeding heart liberal twats. Same with teachers. Kids can basically do what the fuck they want and have no repercussions for such behaviour. :(

Every time I read in the paper that one of these fuckers gets shot or stabbed to death I just think, 'well, that's saved the taxpayer a few quid.'. :(

Yes. Everyone needs to stay the hell home! Crazy shit happening in the world around us because people are not taking quarantine serious enough. Protect yourselves and others by... staying indoors and playing video games.

Maryland was shut down almost two weeks ago, I work from home so nothing on that front changed for me, however working from home is very isolating, and I normally go out to a bar or something after work to get my socialization in. With everything being closed and everyone social distancing, my only social contact now is my wife of 30 years.

Needless to say I cannot wait for this to be over, even though I do understand the importance of it. I just hope our world economy can recover after its people do.

There's one thing that's annoyed me about all of this, and it's the wording that's been used. It's as if they think that we can't handle the words quarantine and Coronavirus and everyone is using the words self Isolation and COVID-19 instead.

I suppose it makes sense from a psychological point of view but I'm an adult. I can handle the proper names for these things ffs.

While you are an adult who can handle it... there are just so many people who can't. I mean, consider that Toilet Paper sold out in stores and online after one week of people hearing the phrase "coronavirus" lol. Eggs and Milk are limited per customer for the same reason. It's not about individuals, it is about the masses.

Although I will say that while I agree with "self-isolating" being a soft term for "quarantine," I do feel that COVID19 is the proper term. The "coronavirus" isn't what kills people, it's COVID19 (the disease that coronavirus can cause) that kills people.

People don't necessarily die from Coronavirus, but they can die from COVID19. Similar to how it isn't HIV that kills you, it's AIDS.

The problem is that Coronavirus is just the name for a family of viruses, 7 of which can infect humans, and more that can't.
    • 229E
    • NL63
    • OC43
    • HKU1
    • MERS-CoV
    • SARS-CoV
    • SARS-CoV-2 (Covid19)
The first 4 are common, you've probably had 1 or more of them already. The last 3 are the serious ones. SARS-CoV-2 is the one that is causing the problems right now. Saying Covid19 is more accurate since it's specific to just the current serious virus. (Covid19 is CoronaVirus Disease 2019)

Edit: interestingly, the names for the virus and the disease it causes are picked by different organisations. The International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses names the virus (SARS-CoV-2), while the World Health Organisation names the disease (Covid19).

Apparently SARS-CoV also has several sub species: SARS-CoV_PC4-227 and SARSr-CoV-btKY72.

Just got my clippers out yesterday and got rid of 6 weeks worth of growth  :D

Now that might not sound too bad for normal folk but for me it's A LOT. My hair grows like CRAZY (which is ironic given my baldy bonce lol). So much so that I dare not shave regularly. If I end up shaving every day (something that I haven't done for DECADES) for only a few days I end up needing another shave a couple of hours after I've just had one. This isn't an exaggeration. It goes a bit fucking mental lol  :D

So after 6-8 weeks of my hair on my head and chin of not seeing any sign of my clippers I have about 1cm worth of hair on my head and chin. If I shaved every day it would go REALLY mental. I had a boss that challenged me on my lack of shaving once. Told him I shaved that morning and my stubble goes crazy if I shave every day. He didn't believe me so I went a week without shaving. He didn't bother me with it again  :D

    In VR News,

I would imagine that home-based VR is thriving right now, with so many regions engaged in shelter-at-home aka, quarantine. But it looks like VR Arcades are not fairing so well during this pandemic, including The VOID.

Two Bit Circus in Los Angeles closed its location for the month, and a VR tournament cancelled the portion of its event to be held at VR arcades, as the response to the coronavirus shifts on a daily basis.

VR arcades and attractions are fairly new businesses facing some difficult realities even before the spread of COVID-19. Each headset can only transport one person at a time to a virtual world and physical locations are typically forced into high-rent areas to get the foot traffic arcades need to maintain a constant flow of new guests. Some arcades featuring off-the-shelf headsets also compete against new home experiences. The $400 Oculus Quest, for example, provides fully wireless VR and some incredibly popular games competing with roughly $25 for an hour with a tethered experience at an arcade. These tough realities led a number of VR arcades to close over the last few years, like the IMAX VR arcade effort.

On Tuesday, March 17, The VOID contacted UploadVR once again to update their stance. As of the evening of March 16, The VOID has made the decision to temporarily close all The VOID locations in North America, effective immediately as a precautionary measure.

    https://uploadvr.com/coronavirus-vr-arcade-closure/

A direct quote from a VR Arcade business owner:

“The impacts from the coronavirus are still unknown, but as arcade owners, we have traded private messages back and forth over the past few weeks. It’s been a nerve-wracking couple of weeks for us all,” reads a note from Ryan Burningham, CEO of the league and an arcade operator. “VR arcades, in general, are not huge businesses. Most are operated to support themselves and their owners’ and staff’s families. From one business owner to another, we are seeing corporate cancellations, some arcades (especially in Europe and all over Asia) having to close due to mandatory restrictions being put into effect. The VR arcade industry is quite young, but never have we faced a moment quite like this.”

If this pandemic lasts through summer, there are a lot of businesses that will need to rethink their business model.

Anyone owning a VR Arcade should have sold up last year at the very latest tbh. They were always short term investments.

Things not looking good for Boris, our Prime Minister 😯

They've moved him into Intensive Care this afternoon. If he ends up on a ventilator his chances are pretty much 50/50.

Hope he makes it, he's only one of two MPs that I've personally liked. The other being the late great John Smith.

Any known cases onboard? Probably a bit late now but if you do have some then get the captain to turn off the air conditioning if he/she hasn't done already!

    Stay safe! 😁

If I were on a cruise ship, I'd ask for a life raft and just go at it solo! lol

I've always fancied going on a cruise. Once this nightmare is over we'll probably see plenty of cut price cruises going I think.

I haven't had a proper holiday since I was 15 years old tbh. I've either been too skint or too busy working and unable to take more than a few days off at a time.
