I have spent 5 yrs+ giving money to app developers and Oculus just so i can enjoy the online VR experience between my friends and my family. Now to be told that i can now only use the online apps (i have purchased) if i sign up to Facebook is a P**s take. Oculus? I will never purchase from you again. All my money will now go to steam. My next VR headset upgrade will come from another brand, even if it is not as good as yours. Facebook? I don`t  give a s**t how much you`re worth. I wouldn`t sign up to your company if i had a gun to my head. Hopefully Governments will soon see, if they haven`t already seen you for what you are, and close you down. Things never last forever, just like my support for Oculus.

Facebook has owned Oculus since 2014, so you’ve been “signed up” and giving them your money from the start. Good luck with your next headset.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Good grief, not this old chestnut AGAIN.

Create a Facebook account with a throwaway email address then don't go anywhere near it again. You lose nothing. Facebook gains nothing. Problem solved.

"Good grief" indeed.  Can moderators tag threads as #Tantrum and give us the option of filtering them out?

Hi, I was fully aware that Facebook owned and helped Oculus continue in the development and marketing of their headsets. Being a big Oculus and VR fan for years, i was comfortable with that and appreciative of that fact. Especially when helping Oculus to get to where they are now. At that early stage though, i was not being forced to use the "Proven to be untrusted by Governments"  Facebook Social media platform to play my purchased products.
I don`t and never will trust facebook. Zuckerberg and Facebook have clearly proven to the world their incompetence, twice over, and Facebooks days are numbered. Sadly, they may take Oculus down with them : (.
I am p***ed with Oculus only for turning their back on their initial fans that funded them back in 2012, early 201313 with the release of the DK1`s, but now find they can no longer use their games because they do not use facebook for the same reasons i don`t.
I still admire and respect the Devs of Oculus, for their technical knowledge in all things VR.
Lastly. This was a clean thread and very well titled, you could have just browsed past it if you didn`t like me dissing facebook (which is clearly your issues here).BTW. The "Unbeliever" quote actually reads in my favour. Facebook is broken, without any doubts, and i don`t want it back thank you very much.

Hi,
just out of curiosity, what apps are you not able to use without a Facebook account?
I only play single player stuff and don't care for online socializing, so I guess that's why I wasn't prompted to login with Facebook yet.

How on earth does my post read in your favour? I have a Facebook account linked to my Oculus account without any worries at all. I was just posting a method that you can have a Facebook account without feeding the Facebook machine if you want to. If you want to play online do what I've suggested. If you want to throw a hissy fit and choose not to, that's no problem. It's no skin off anyone's proverbial nose.

Anyone opening this sort of thread and not creating an empty Facebook account is just being stubborn and cutting off their Oculus nose to spite their Oculus Store face, which is why you're getting some very fair criticism.

Like I've said in the many other iterations of this thread in the past, and will do in the future: if you're worrying about internet privacy NOW then you're almost 30 years too late. Google have known what we have for breakfast every morning, what sort of dodgy porn we watch and what adverts will appeal to us all since the 90s. It's pretty pointless shutting that stable door tbh. Sure, you can go the Duck Duck Go route if you want but it's pretty pointless if you've ever had any sort of online presence of any kind since the internet first started. Once that horse is out you won't be able to get it back in again.

Every time you use a credit card, every time you use a mobile phone, every time you use public transport in London and I dare say other cities around the world, every time you see a doctor or are admitted to hospital, every time you go shopping and use any sort of loyalty card when doing your shopping that online presence continues to build.

This is all the start of SkyNet...but I personally couldn't give a fuck. I'm quite happily using my Rift S, my mobile phone, my internet access, my credit card, my Oyster card, my various email addresses etc etc etc. It's WAY too late to start worrying about these things.

Too late... Sarah has already uncovered the conspiracy, back in 2015.

Look.  We all know Facebook is an awful, knife in the back, piece of sh1t with a complete moron as the CEO/Founder but you have to realize that Oculus is OWNED by this heap of dung.  So you will have to live by THEIR rules.

Trust me the sooner Facebook is destroyed....the better.

And what if the pieces are picked up by WeChat; an even more sinister platform that combines Facefook, Twatter, PayPal, Zelle, your Government eID and your COVID-19 health certificate into one state run app??? 😛
