ShowbizDonkey
Retired Support
Update 7/21/2020: Made slight update to In-App Keyboard note for additional clarity.

These features and enhancements will become available throughout the week of 7/20/20

Friends

Find your Friends

We’ve made it easier for you to find your Facebook friends and connect with them in VR. If you’ve logged in with Facebook on Oculus, you have the option to choose whether people can find you by your Facebook name.

  • Only the audience you choose in your privacy settings will be able to find you by Facebook name.
    • The options for this setting are: anyone, friends only, or only me
  • Your Facebook name privacy setting will default to the option you previously chose for your “Oculus real name,” but you can adjust this setting at any time.
  • For new users, this setting will default to friends only.

Invite your friends

You can now invite your friends to join you in-VR, even if they aren’t currently using their headset.

  • To invite your friends to join you in-VR, launch an app, pause it, and select Invite.
  • Select Invite again if you want to change the invite or send it to new people.
  • Once you leave the app the invitation will expire.

Parties

Public Parties

  • We’re introducing Public Parties to Oculus Quest.
    • A public party is a voice over IP (VOIP) call that can be discovered by people outside of your Oculus friends list. Public parties allow you to explore experiences or play games with people you haven’t met before in-VR.
    • Public parties can support up to 8 people at a time.
  • You can access public parties by selecting Play with Others from your home feed.
  • Learn more about public parties and how they work.

Travel Together

  • Travel Together allows people in a party to travel to an app, and arrive at the same location within the app, together.
  • Apps that support the Travel Together feature will show up under the Play with Others section of your home feed.
  • Travel Together is available for both public and private parties.
  • Learn more about how to use Travel Together with your party.

Party Size

  • Now both public and private parties will be able to support up to 8 people.

  • Please note, some apps have their own party size limits that are less than 8.

Reporting

We’ve made the following improvements to our reporting flow:

  • Improved clarity of messaging
  • Made it easier to attach video to reports
  • Added functionality to review media before moving forward with the report.
  • Added the ability to block the person you’re reporting directly from the reporting flow.

Block List

We’ve added the ability to easily view and modify the list of users that you’ve blocked on Oculus.

  • To access your block list select Settings > Device > Privacy

Controllers

See hands interact with controllers

When you’re using your Touch controllers with your Oculus Quest, you’ll now see a visual representation of your hands interacting with the controllers.

Take a photo with your controller

You can now take a photo in-VR using your touch controller. To do this, press and hold the Oculus button (0) and then press a trigger. Your photos will appear in the camera roll.

Keyboard

Japanese Keyboard Layout

We’ve added a Japanese keyboard option to the Oculus Keyboard.

  • You can change the language of your Oculus Keyboard by selecting the globe icon key.

In-app Keyboard

We’ve enabled app developers to use the Oculus keyboard within their apps for text entry.

  • Please note, this feature is dependent on developers to implement it into their apps. Developers will have access to this feature as part of the upcoming v19 SDK release.

Fixes

  • Fixed a bug causing apps listed under “unknown sources” not to appear.
  • Fixed a bug where some app thumbnails were showing incorrect dates.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the back button in the Oculus store to not function after quitting the app.
  • Fixed a bug that caused the floor boundary for some Stationary Guardians to remain visible.

My Quest is doing better with remembering my Guardian today, but still no hands showing with controllers (I guess this feature must be rolling out separately from the v19 update).

Do hands show up if you’ve enabled Quest hand tracking?  Hands show up fine with Link.

Yeah, I see hands in hand-tracking mode, but not the new "hands with controllers" feature, which looks like this (not my picture):
rOculusQuest - What does everyone thing about the new controllers in Oculus Home

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Try my game: Cyclops Island Demo

And I've confirmed removing the batteries for over a minute, and even un-pairing and re-pairing the controllers doesn't fix the issue. My hands are spinning all over the place - sometimes even when they are stationary in front of me.

Yeah, same here - no hands on controllers. However, everything else is working peachy. Link seems extremely stable and the quality settings seem to work. Oh, I finally have a working Voice Command feature now too. I had a button before but it would tell me to go get bent and that not everybody has it. Today after the update, when I clicked the button it sent me through a quick setup and it now is fully functional. Weird loopy glitch with guardian not setting on first reboot - an additional reboot solved that issue.

@TechZN  Obviously you should contact Oculus Support and start a ticket mate.  Have you tried enabling Quest hand tracking?  If you can get that to work ok it’s probably a problem with you controllers.  Otherwise I guess it could be headset related.  Good luck sorting this out mate.

Have u found a solutions for this, mine just startet on this crap.

Edit: My Quest now seems to be forgetting my Guardian after going into standby. I had to redo my Guardian after first rebooting with the new update, then when I just went back in to test something, I had to redo it again. Turned the Quest off and on (standby), and had to redo it again. I cleared my Guardian history and redefined it again, then tried a full reboot--the Guardian persisted through the reboot, but after turning it off to standby and on again, it had yet again lost it. I haven't had this issue with any previous software versions.

Mine forgets the guardian everytime i take the headset off for more than a few seconds now after this update

I installed this update and now whenever I try to run an application via quest link the framerate goes to approx 1fps and I never transition out of the home screen but I can hear the audio from the application I'm trying to run.

No amount of restarting my computer or the headset fixes this and it started happening the exact moment I applied the new patch.

The last 3 builds have been absolutely abysmal for stability. I am very disappointed with the quality of these recent patches.

EDIT : I'm going to try factory resetting again later like I had to do last time there was a new patch.

EDIT2 : Factory reset did not fix the problem. I also bought a new cable because that's what the oculus software recommends (I know that wouldn't do anything but at least I can say I did everything oculus told me to do). Trying to remove all the windows software and re-install now.

EDIT3 : Uninstalling then reinstalling the link software also did not work. I'm just going to give up at this point.

Here are the two most important problems after firmware 19 update !
1. Quest has problem in tracking the controller. I have tried restart the device, changed the batteries, clear history of guardian, unable the hand tracking. So, now I can not play any game with the controllers. The controller became uncontrollable.
2. When I cast using chromecast, the quest screen is flicking wildly, so bad until I get motion sickness. I have never experienced any problem after upgrade, but I think this firmware 19 is harmful to my device. Can I get refund ?

This is likely a problem with YUR which is why they emailed everyone to tell them of the bug.
Either uninstall YUR or update to the latest version.

I'm unable to get the universal menu... it's completely gone for me.... nothing works even a factory reset. Anyone else having this?

Awww I was afraid of this. Haven't gotten the update yet but the universal menu disappeared for me on V18 too...

Consider yourself lucky.  The Universal Menu should be called Universal GARBAGE Menu.  It is awful!!!!!!
