Am I doing something wrong?

I got my Oculus Quest yesterday, and I'm having some trouble with the menus. When I boot up the system, it goes through the guardian set up, with the final step to check and make sure it's correct. But, I have no menus other than that. I've looked at some videos, and people seem to have a bar at the bottom of their screen that I'm missing. I can use my phone to launch a game, and from there, I can then open the main menu or browser, whatever it's called (resume apps, browse store, etc), but that's it.
I've tried pressing the Oculus button on my right controller, however that doesn't do anything (though holding it does reset my position)

Might sound stupid, but did you try turning around? 🙂

Having read stories about tech and the like before, I don't blame you for pointing out the obvious. However, that doesn't display it either.
After launching a game from my phone, I can manage to back out to the home screen, which will then open up the store/browser window, but there's no navigation panel or anything, so I can't go to any other screen (though I can buy, install, and launch recent apps from that window)

Okay, turns out I was missing something. After leaving it on whilst I went to work, it apparently downloaded an update unbeknownst to me. Everything is working as it should now and I can navigate easily

Glad to hear it.

Sorry if I come across as snarky. It's just that so often the simple and obvious solution is completely missed. Not ashamed to admit I spent an hour trying to figure out where my main menu was the first time I launched Oculus Link... only to realize that I was facing the wrong way 🙂

Then again, I once spent 12 hours searching for my glasses and growing ever more panicked when I couldn't find them. Finally I gave up, took my glasses off, put them on the computer desk, and started to head to bed. Cue the MASSIVE head desk.

Oh, didn't think that at all. Have been around tech enough, and read enough horror stories to know that sometimes people really do overlook the most obvious things sometimes, even a simple lapse in judgement, like with the glasses there

I've experienced one just as bad. I use to have an acquaintance (he considered himself a friend, I stopped thinking of him that way two months before I caught him trying to break into my apartment after I refused to loan him my Xbox One) who was horrible with tech. Six times I had to reinstall his computer's OS because he'd get the computer so heavily infected with viruses that only a clean install of Windows and hard drive wipe could fix things. Six times I made sure Windows Update was on, installed a good antivirus, and told him the following: "Okay, this antivirus has a pop up ad when it updates for the paid version. This is normal, and not a sign of a virus. It's just an advertisement for the paid version, which you don't need since you don't use the features the paid version adds. Do. Not. Uninstall. Your. Antivirus!"
Six times he uninstalled his antivirus because he thought the ad is a virus. Six times he turned off Windows Update because he'd 'heard' that there's a computer virus pretending to be a Windows Update. Six times he killed his PC by going to sketchy porn sites without any antivirus or windows updates. He'd even disable Windows Defender in it's entirety. After the sixth time of fixing his PC, I refused to do it again. Instead he had to take it to Best Buy and have them install a brand new copy of Windows 8 (this was before Win 10 came out).
It gets better still. He'd been told time and again by his ISP how to power cycle the modem. And he never figured out how to do so. He was 100% convinced that to power cycle the modem you have to first unplug it, then go outside and do something to the cable (he had cable internet), THEN plug in the modem. If you didn't do whatever it was he thought you do to the cable, he was convinced it will cause your computer to freeze up permanently and wreck your modem too boot. The mediacom repair guy that kept having to come to fix things because this clown damaged stuff had no idea what the hell was being done, or what the idiot thought needed to be done.
The one time he caught me power cycling the modem, he decided to get physical and tried to punch me. I moved out of the way, and he put his fist through his computer screen. That was the absolute last time I tried to help him with a computer or any other tech. Also the last time I considered him a friend.
