New Facebook Rules for Oculus Users!

kevinw729

This would seem to underpin the feeling that some posters on other forums have voices that the Facebook management are not enamored with the previous Oculus community and want to achieve a "hard reset" over what has passed. Totally distancing themselves from the previous Oculus userbase and focusing on the brand new uplands envisaged for the Quest-2, with no pesky baggage. It is the kind'a ultimate slap in the face to the 12-month old Rift-S and Quest-1 community who may also have brought a Quest-2, hoping they would be able to pick which platform they could use dependent on what they wanted to do that day!

Like all things currently, I am sure the devil is in the details - and can be rolled back at any time if the backlash proves embarrassing.

One of the posters on the Oculus Quest Facebook forum just go this back:
"Facebook's Oculus Support team has confirmed that users with multiple Oculus headsets may not use the same Facebook account on each headset at the same time."

It seems the comment from Facebook Connect 2020 that you could have one friend use your 12-month old VR hardware while you use the new Quest-2 you just brought is now not valid!

Sure the backlash to this news will force a roll back!

Everyone has seen how Oculus has treated their user base. As soon as their latest device is released, they move on and leave all those devices un supported. I bought into Steam for VR, as soon as I saw how they discontinued support for the OG Rift.

If you are still purchasing Oculus products, you just have to realize the negatives before you purchase. I gave in and bought a Quest last year, because it was so amazing. I knew going in that it may be discontinued, so, just realize that before purchasing.

Going forward though, I most likely will not be spending any money on Oculus. I can’t use a product when a company over and over again, does its customers wrong.

When you see pictures like this across the forums:

It should not take a rocket scientist to tell that you have a lot of people that were intending to have multi-user gaming in their household.

And when you also encourage your newly acquired studio to release a product like this:

Its also should not take a metal leap of understanding that you will have a lot of family and friends expecting to play.

No doubt Facebook had a plan to release a "Friends and Family" log on account feature, but that this was not launched with the product, and is expected to come out in at least a years time - is no solution.

While at the same time, the management is so confused, that they have not passed on to their support teams to defuse this situation, and not answer questions in this manner:

It is these failures of corporate governance that seems to be steeling defeat from the jaws of a victorious launch!

EDIT - Oh and before someone tries to call us a "hater" for bringing this up - or claims its not an "issue"; just a slice [image] of the seething rage that is on the Oculus Quest Facebook forum at this moment after the news broke a few hours ago!

There are some incredibly smart and talented people there - but there is also a culture that sometimes can prove self defeating. We also have to understand that Facebook has a long term objective in place. Some of the previous Oculus execs found this counter to what they wanted to achieve in this sector and moved on.

The question has to be, is this just a one off "flash in the pan" - or is there a fundamental infrastructure in place that will block multiple use - as there are several buyers who purchased multiple units and will not like this news. But as I have said before, given enough bad publicity and Facebook has a habit of rolling back directives.

Its nice to see that as we speculated, saner heads have intervened.

Well placed sources now say that the situation on the multiple use of headsets is actually being addressed and has been put down to communication errors.

A plan has now been put in place to have a friends, family and close users extension - though information on how this will be implemented has yet to be revealed.

I think Facebook could have saved themselves a lot of grief if they had lead with this rather than the statement before. Hopefully this can be put into practices ASAP to avoid any "accidental" banning, and bricking of new purchases.

All this started because someone on reddit posted a conversation they had with an unnamed support person.
But can anybody point to where in the Oculus terms of service this rule actually occurs? Or is this just a support person who doesn't really know the rules?

The terms of service do say (section 2.2) you can let others use your headset and account, and you will be responsible for them not breaking the terms.
