Missed you again I'm afraid. Just felt so tired last night. I work Saturdays currently and it's at the end of a string of 6am starts, so sometimes if I don't sleep too well the previous night or two it catches up with me, especially after dinner. I'll be on at some point in the week, no idea when though. Got to catch up with my piano practice too, and a few other things besides.

Hi Chaz - I'm going to be flying this evening, if you're interested.
I'm happy to arrange for us to fly a single airframe when we fly online together, so we can get to know it well enough to be effective, whatever we get up to. I'll leave it up to you to decide which one (in my career mode I'll be flying the IL-2, as it's my favourite in this sim) - maybe you want to stick with the LaGG-3, though I would suggest the later Yak-1, which is an updated LaGG-3.

Anyway, let me know - I'll be on the same server as last time, from around 19:00  :)

  • Saturday is usually good with me. Also postponement would be better for me too really.

Well that's my account name, although on my friends list I@m just plain Chazmeister.

I assume yours is Brixmis same as here?

I'm also getting a nil return on Chazmeister747 on Steam.

    Mornin Chaz

do you mind if we postpone this evening's sesh? I had a very rough night - hardly slept and I'm likely to be very knackered this evening.
Maybe do it on Saturday or Sunday instead?

Chaz - ya wanna get some stick time tomorrow evening? I'll be on from around 19:00 BST.

Also - comms. Should I set up a TS channel? Or wanna use Steam? Or Discord? Lemme know. I'll see if RedRizla wants to come along, too, seeing as he seems to be having the same issues as you.

Ok - I'll give you a shout soon. I normally join the TAW server, they have one for beginners, too, plus they often have areas of the map where combat is not allowed.
I don't know what exactly was fixed with the patch, just said improved ground handling.
Yes, it has good damage simulation - you'll also find that if you go over the rough ground/snow on take-off, when you are flying an aileron will fall off!
I'm by no means an expert, but I do know the basics well. I trust you know how to keep the temperatures under control? Or maybe you use the auto function. I actually like to use the manual control for water and oil radiators, as well as the prop rpm etc - makes it so much more interesting, just to survive the flight, let alone the enemy and take-off and landings! I've crash-landed a few times and survived, though. All good fun.

Here's a report from my first SP combat mission:

    https://virtualpilotorguk.wordpress.com/2017/11/01/il-2-bos-aar-first-combat-mission/

I don't think there are comms in the game - I used someone else's Teamspeak before. I can make a TS channel, or Discord - whatever ya like. I think TAW have a server themselves, so if we do join their server, we could join the TS, too, and use a private room. Maybe Steam comms? (my IL-2 isn't the Steam version, but no matter)

Aileron, that was the thing, not the flaps that fell off. Temperature control, fuel mixing and all that will be beyond me at this point. Just getting to grips with basic flying and maneuvers is where I'm at right now really.

All sounds good. I thought we might have to do TS or something similar, not that I have either installed right now.

I also have the standalone launcher too, as purchased via their website not Steam. Will give your mission report a read as I do enjoy stuff like that. Quite enjoying reading the daily Overlordy articles over on RPS right now.

Hi - was just thinking about what you said with controlling the rudder in IL-2. Have you tried it recently? I used to have the same issue - but they did some work on it in and released an update and after that it was much better - though still can be difficult in some aircraft and circumstances.

Not tried it in the last few months, but was going to set my stick and Rift backup for desk bound stuff tonight, so I'll give it a try and see how I go. I should try and get back into it really, considering I recently bought BoM in their sale and have still yet to play BoS properly (I just can't help myself, especially when their stuff is usually quite expensive).

I've looked at some of the tipsters for IL2 and dl'd some reference sheets for speeds and flaps etc. Seems like a lot to take on board though. Although I guess you're better off trying to learn one aircraft at a time. I also had a problem with it in VR that the flaps indicator in the aircraft you do the training missions in, was out of sync with the actual flaps setting. I only noticed by comparing the cockpit reading with the UI one. I don't know if that's fixed yet. Do you really need to know all that stuff or can you fly it a bit more seat of the pants style? I seem to manage flying a Cessna OK in the various sims with only a rudimentary understanding of the instruments and air speed and flap settings. Well, OK by my standards but probably utterly hap hazard by a pro pilot's. I do love going on a 1-2 hour flight in Aerofly 2, taking in the scenery. Very relaxing.

What I'm really waiting for is RoF in VR. I spent a small fortune on RoF, hardly played it and then VR came out and I never went back and left it collecting dust along with my Track IR.
