Yes, this does work. In the limited testing I did. But you don't get any sound coming thru the headset then. Or thru any speaker for that matter.

Personally, the static flashes are a deal breaker for me. If I can't recoup the money I sunk into this headset, then I'm screwed. I don't have the money to just buy something else. So its a big deal to me.

Totally agree, Oculus needs to come out and publicly acknowledge this issue. Customer support will only tell you its a known issue after you create a ticket. That's baloney!!
