ha - I see you've had your fair share, too! Well, we came here to get away from such things - I got arrested at our last place - a bungalow in a very small rural village (Fosdyke - where we moved to get away from a similar situation to yours, in your flat - ours was a shared house). We had one side's two St bernards barking all day - and their drive-come-run was up against the outside wall of our living room - but we were able to put up with that for a couple of years, cos the other side of our semi-detached bungalow were a very quiet couple - just used to sit reading all day and were very friendly. Then the husband died (at 58 - heart attack) and the wife moved away and we got a complete arsehole who moved in with his two springer spaniels and he had them out, running and barking around the garden, which was up against our bedroom until midnight and again from 5am on.
Asked him politely god knows how many times and like you say "oh, didn't realise - don't worry, won't happen again" next day = same shit!
Got pissed off, mainly for my wife, who was working all hours god sends and couldn't get any rest. So I waited outside my door and when the bastard came home from the pub at midnight I went out and decked him. Then I went back inside, called the cops and told them what I'd done. He also called them to report me - but they were so pissed off with him that they actually sided with me! Ha - gotta luv Brit cops!
It was cos of that, that we bought this place, right on the edge of town, hoping to get peace and quite. So far the neighbours with the noisey brats (who they actually encourage to scream and yell) have called the cops on me twice, for threatening them! Yup - again, the cops have shown a lot of sympathy and actually given me tips about how to get them in the shit without dropping myself in it
I lived in Germany for 18 years - 7 with the army, 3 with the RAF and the rest all in appartment buildings and I never once had a single occasion to be pissed off with neighbours. Whether German, Turkish, Polish or whatever, they know how to behave over there. More's to the point, it's an instant fine from the cops if you don't!
The main problem in this area is poor education, I'm afraid. Not much can be done. I was intending to just stay a few weeks and move on, when I came here, cos I knew what it's like - but then I met Mrs Brix, and she refused to move away. Oh well...
Anyway, I hope to get on over the weekend as well. I'm within an inch of buying Kuban - pretty sure I'll have it by the end of the weekend.
Oh btw - I know the Gloucester area and I love it! Always said I would love to live down there. I used to go to my old army unit at Colerne for a week every year, to run a special event amateur radio station. They stopped doing them about 4 years ago, so I don't get to go down there any more. Shame.
If anyone is interested in a nice little boom triangle where you can make oodles of dosh and zoom up the Empire ranks at the same time, I stumbled across one while stopping to refuel.
