[FINAL APK] Blind Swordsman

Hello all,

I made an experience called Blind Swordsman where you play a swordsman defending yourself against enemies using just your hearing. You have to play standing or sitting in a swivel chair since the enemies come from all directions. You don't need a gamepad, just the touchpad - you tap to swing your sword in the direction you are facing.
There are no graphics besides the instructions at the beginning

I was inspired by Zatoichi and the new Daredevil TV series, and I wanted to try working with the new Oculus Audio SDK. I wanted to give an experience of being in a dojo while it's raining outside and hearing people coming in and circling around you to attack - and you being such a badass that you can take out multiple attackers just using your hearing and concentration.



This video shows the instructions, the player killing an enemy, and the player being killed. The video is mostly black so you have to use headphones (and optimally close your eyes after the instructions) to get a sense of the experience :)


Please let me know what you think. I plan to develop it further with additional waves of enemies, enemy behaviours, and other audio effects.

    My honest opinion is that a VR experience with zero visuals felt very underwhelming. However, I don't think your audio focused mechanic is necessarily a bad one. You just need to show something visual and that doesn't mean it will ruin the mechanic.

    For example if you can have the player enter a darkly lit room on a stormy night. Shadows move and give possible hints of an enemy. The occasional lightning strike may reveal for a moment incoming danger as the enemy moves around you in the shadows.

    Or, you could have a ghost hunter themed game. You're in a spooky candle lit mansion. You hear the ghost coming after you. Occasionally they phase in and out, but you must capture them by ear.

    Hi dpid,

    Thanks for your honesty and ideas. I feel like both the lightning strike idea and the ghost ideas are good evolutions of the concept but for the jam I wanted to see what it felt like to have a pure audio experience.
