It was rough getting this all together, and we never really solved performance issues completely on the GearVR, but Timewarp hides up a lot of the framerate inconsistencies. While Unreal 4 looks nice, its not fully ready to be developing a game for Gear VR. Most of the pain came from the fact that there is no way that I could find to GPU profile the scene. So we were placing them one by one into a test level and seeing how heavy they were to render.
We mostly found that complex materials, and particles were very hard for the Gear VR to render. Our Rain was "optimized" to be about only 2ms in frametime at the end! The tools for previewing your project on the PC were awesome, and I can see Unreal 4 being a great tool for building games for PC.
If anybody can tell me how they went about gpu profiling their unreal 4 project I'd love to hear about it.Controls
We tested a DualShock 4 connected over Bluetooth. You should sit in a swivel chair where you can turn 360 degrees freely.
Left stick : Move forward/backward
L1 : Action button (Right now you can only charge the antennas)
