GetLoggedInUser is not working for Gear VR (unity3d) (Edit: solved)

First failure: 
Oculus.Platform.Core.Initialize (); just hangs forever and try/catch is ineffective
If I call Initialize with the app id:
Oculus.Platform.Core.Initialize ("13673593358340");  
I can then catch the error and try again, at some point (usually the second call) I get  Oculus.Platform.Core.IsInitialized () to true 
so I can then proceed further and call GetLoggedInUser

Second failure: 
Platform.Users.GetLoggedInUser().OnComplete((Message<User> msg) => {

Yields the following message:
"The user isn't signed in or their account state wasn't in a recoverable state."

I do not know what I am doing wrong...

BTW: the same code works fine for windows 7/10 on DK2/CV1  (with the corresponding app id)
Unity: 5.6.1p1
Oculus Utilities: 1.14.0

Edit: I've uploaded the apk to the store on an alpha channel
I still have the first failure but not the second one.

The whole process to test the apk is now even longer, but at least it works (so far...)
