Oculus Audio via Unity C# script

I am using the oculus for uni work.

i have found that the audio is fine outside of unity for example during the unreal setup tutorial, however whithin unity the oculus headphones are buggy to work with.

when i play audio from the oculus audio pack "On awake"  the audio is fine through the headset, but playing the same audio when triggered via a script just makes a loud buzzing sound. I setup a toggle button in the unity inspector via a script and when i load in, fine. Toggle the audio off then back on ahnd i get buzzing,

does anyone know a fix or work-around.

Unity 5.6.2 using the Oculus Avatar and platform SDK
