Oculus Quest Controllers position/ rotation issue when put on table

I just discovered some weird tracking issue.
When I put the Oculus Quest Controllers on the table, the calls to TryGetRotation return false and the rotation value is a Quaternion.identity. This is not the case for the position though, TryGetPosition returns true and the correct value. Is this expected behaviour? I don't think so. Either both methods should return true and correct values, or false, but not this mixup.
