art in virtual reality world

http://issuu.com/ 67bokp3oqzp6.jpg19ccie6f1gdv.jpgHundreds of years ago before we had much of anything technology wise art was used to tell stories which were then shown to people as a show using illusion to bring the panoramic scene  into 360 degrees. The panorama was painted on horizontail handscrolls or othe paint rolls. I have been storytelling on these for several years and found they were awesome viewed with VR headset. I still do not have it set up correctly and I have much to learn  about painting in 2D world to have it shine in the virtual world. Any suggestions much appreciated  but you might have more fun then you think with art in thIs form. Go to issuu.com and you can see the scrolls and folding albums in their entirety and in 360 or 180 degrees . I publish under Debbi Chan or possibly debbi Saccomanno chan.  I have portfolio on fineartamerica.com which can be viewed in 360 or panoramic but think my photography might be better to offer public. I shot much in 180 degrees and even a few in 360. History is definitely coming around.  I will purchase Rift and  Touch so I can paint with Quill  to see what my art looks like but I am still more interested in having 2D stories told in 360.   And I have many subjects. Some are better to view in VR world than others but the  Van Gogh  books for instance offer 70 plus ft each of Van Gogh'S  paintings while the app I bought on Oculus of  Van Gogh had one.  Go enjoy and again I am new at this but  the entire history of painted stories on scrolls has been my passion for years and want it to evolve with the new. My work on issuue.com can be downloaded for free. At least for now.

@Ssosum I have an app Mocove Arts currently avaialble in Rift and Gear VR (both in the Gallery category). I'm not sure whether this will be related to your interest. It currently presents over 500+ paintings in one single virtual gallery.

The Rift version of Mocove Arts will have its biggest content update in the coming 1-2 month. This version will likely to include the famous painting (Along the River During the Qingming Festival (simplified Chinese: 清明上河图). You will then see how it's presented in VR form. The real world size of this painting is 25.5 cm × 525 cm (10.0 in × 207 in) according to wikipedia. But of course, I choose to enlarge it quite a bit in the virtual museum.

The ideal form to present artwork like this is probably not the way I'm doing it. In future versions, I will explore other  ways of allowing users to navigate and see the paintings in their true beauty.

I'll let you know when this version is alive.

Well it is helpful but I need a way to show mine so I am in a bit of the same boat. Only I probably know lots less about the virtual world. I will certainly go have a look.  I won't  have money for Rift for a month or so. Timing to see Qingming festival  in VR us exciting. One of my very favorite pieces and it actually hooked me into painting on scrolls and folding albums over 70' long.

For now, viewing my paintings is not a flowing view. With headset I must still go from one page to the next like a slideshow. But it does allow the viewer time to really look. Scrolls  are treasured. Savored like a good tea or sipped like a fine wine. I think that many people will go through a scroll online too fast. Like gulping instead of sipping. So perhaps  there are as many ways to show then now in virtual world as there was hundreds of years ago when  panoramas were meant to be so lifelike that spectators lost grasp of what was real and what was not !

Hiya.

It is very easy in Unity to build a working VR art museum.

If its purely walking thru rooms of scrolls all the code is available already, and in terms of scenery, exhibit space, if you cant make it yourself, the unity Asset store has much to ofer, or people can custom build what you need (pob for some $$$).
But you can block it all our in unity with cubes etc to get an idea of what you want.

All the best

No idea.

Its a reasonably simpler project to get involved with VR though, so why not have a go.
