Interesting tidbit. Earlier this morning in a separate discussion on this forum, I made the following comment about PSVR vs Oculus Quest
- PSVR 1 did not have a major impact on VR compared to the Oculus
Quest, which really seems to have taken the world by storm as a VR HMD.
- The Oculus Quest is likely the 'gateway drug' that PSVR 2 will benefit from.
Then 5 hours ago, and article was published about how the Quest has helped increase the confidence that Developers have in VR and its future.
Virtual reality has remained a relatively small niche in video game development despite the innovations made by products like the HTC Vive and the Oculus Rift. However, it isn’t down and out just yet as the stand-alone Oculus Quest headset reinvigorates developers’ passion.
Virtual reality will be the dominant “immersive tech” in five years, according to 25% of respondents from a Game Developers Conference survey polling nearly 4,000 participating developers. That uptick in VR enthusiasm reflects a 6% increase from 2018https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/developers-faith-rising-vr-oculus-quest/
I also remember some discussions last year about how developers are losing their interest in VR, and moving back over to standard flat/vanilla game development. But it looks like we'll see another shift in VR's favor with the increased demand on the Quest! That's good news, since that means... more VR software is coming.
