If you see the error message "HMD powered off, check HDMI connection" with the 0.7 Oculus Runtime on Windows (including Window 10), it's possible you have an older video card driver installed. Please make sure to install the following drivers (or newer).

https://developer.nvidia.com/oculus-07-sdk-driver-support

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/Oculus07SDK-Driver.aspx

After installing those drivers and the 0.7 runtime, please be sure to restart your computer.

In addition, this error could also be shown if you are using unsupported hardware. Please make sure you are on a desktop machine with either a Nvidia GTX 600 series or AMD HD 7000 series (or better). Laptops are NOT supported. Sorry.

i have the same problem also what i did was install intel hd graphics drivers because since you have a laptop the oculus will be connecting to the intel graphics card not the nvidia

Same problem here. Laptop with Win 7, oculus runtime 0.7, NVidia GTX860, al drivers uptdated to most recent version (NVidia and intel hd) and still getting the 'HMD powered off'. Tried with the same hardware and oculus runtime 0.6 and works fine. Any idea?

Downloaded and installed this driver. The rift is now recognized as "ready" in the Oculus configuration utility, however the led is still orange and will not display any game or demo scene.

It may be that you're using a laptop. Unfortunately, laptops are not really supported. However, you may want to try installing the Visual Studio C++ 2015 Redistributables from this link (get both x86 and x64 versions): https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

Same problem here on a laptop with Intel HD 5600 + nVidia 970M. Installing VS 2015 redists did not help. Rolling back to 0.6.0.1 runtime and display drivers v350.12 at least let us continue to use this hardware. Just a pity we purchased 5 of these laptops as remote VR demo stations.

Very sorry about this. I have discovered that this error can also happen if you have unsupported hardware. The only machines supported are desktops with Nvidia GTX 600 series (or better) or AMD HD 7000 series (or better). Unfortunately, laptops are not supported.

Check the info also on: https://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/3inqbc/oculus_07_runtime_and_sdk_released/

After you install the Nvidia drivers 355.83(clean-Install), install the runtime.

This did not work for me so I had to restart my computer with the headset plugged in and powered on after installation of the runtime.

As I have three screens, the rift became primary somehow so I had no Win 10 login screen as the rift was still blank at boot so just use the keyboard: "Enter, input password, wait, Win-Key, Up, Up,(Power menu) Enter, Up,(restart selection), Enter.

Good luck.
