Eye of the Temple - full game is out after 5 years in the making - reviews and impressions

Maybe better with a proper thread for the full version of the game. Here are some trailers of the new Indiana Jones VR simulator 😉 - the first trailer must be watched on YouTube full site:

The game is here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/589940/Eye_of_the_Temple/

Right now 96% of the 65 Steam users ratings are positive. The game requires a large play area of 2 x 2 meter - or 6 feet x 6 feet, and that must be floor space with no objects blocking. My play space (floor space) is 1.5 x 3 meters - and I decided to give the game a try. The game does not support re-centering or thumbstick turning (neither snap nor smooth), but to my amazement the dev has now added the possibility to turn the world left or right (=same as 90 degrees snap turning. This needs to be done inside a menu). This means I can now play the game with no problems!

The game is totally awesome - really messes with your head due to the real walking. Be careful not twisting the hmd cable too much though! The game is one of the most convincing VR experiences I've had. Graphics are simple and get the job done, but still look nice/great. Performance is awesome too - I got solid 90 fps using Index res 500% (yes, five-hundred), you basically just need a GTX 970. I took a few shots using res 500%:

There are nice dynamic shadows - see the shadows from the whip on the stone

The secret to how to constantly keep the player within the play space - while doing real walking - is revealed here by the dev:

"An example of how the game uses carefully chosen arrangements of platforms to keep you in the play area:

When you step forward onto a roller, you then have to walk backwards while on top of it. Finally you step forward to get off it, and you're back in the center of your play area:

It works amazingly well. This game really feels like being Indy - or playing some real-life Montezuma's Revenge, lol. Highly recommended.

Finally some promo shots from the devs, but as you can see it's exactly how my game looks:

A few more shots - great textures when you consider the game's a 250MB download 😮
