First testing of the VR version - not sure if native Oculus drivers are supported, but maybe they are:

Btw - my short review of F1 22:

"While the VR support in Star Wars Squadrons was great, the VR support in F1 22 feels much more mediocre. No one uses blurry temporal antialiasing (TAA) anymore for lcd hmds, apart from F1 22. Feels like an old VR game made for oled hmds like Rift CV1 and HTC Vive, where TAA does not look (very) blurry.
This game is brand-new and about 50GB in size, but did not look better than older games like DiRT 1-2 or Project Cars 1-3 to me.

I fail to see why this game should cost more than $30. In short, even using an oc'ed RTX 3090 and Valve Index with i9 10900K, the image quality and performance felt mediocre and the game failed to impress me. I've refunded, might try again when on sale."

Right now F1 22 has 3,000 ratings and only 63% are positive. Hitman 3 has 3,700 reviews and 68% are positive. So Hitman 3 has the better ratings! Who would have thought that 🤣

Sadly I cannot recommend F1 22 as it is now - did not even care to test the game using my CV1.

Here're two popular user reviews concerning the VR implementation - from Steam, the first is short:

"It is running in VR.... But wow... I am shocked how bad the performance is... Got a RTX2080 and a ryzen 5800x, I can barely play on ultralow settings with not enough fps. And I tried it also on high settings just to see if it also looks THAT bad as in ultralow settings. YES, it does!
Nvidia driver is the newest version with "F1 2022" support
What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of ♥♥♥♥ from EA. unbelievable."

- and a long one:

"Well.. **bleep**. This is the definition of a missed opportunity.

First the good. Handling seems fine, cars feel somewhat 'lighter' to drive - I am hoping this is reflective of real life F1 cars in 2022 - of course being a mere mortal I'll never know - but the handling is definitely different to last year. Audio is, on the whole, great - the individual car engines sound about right. (the music however is tragic).

Graphically, easily the best looking F1 game to date, raytracing looks excellent and (as least in 2D), performance so far feels fine. For reference, I'm running a 3080ti in 1440p, on an AMD 3070x with 32Gb RAM.

Pit stops FINALLY REMOVE THE WHEELS! F*** me, how many years has this taken?? Now you actually SEE the wheels being removed. Good job.

Regrettably.. that's pretty much it for the good. Now.. the bad.

Aside from the Champions Edition launch fiasco, where EA clearly forgot there is a world outside of the US (game launching 7 hours later than planned - but right on time if you were to use US time....).....

* VR. Probably one of the biggest changes to the game and should have been an epic experience almost made me throw up. I am a seasoned VR vet, I have experienced the worst VR has to throw at you and yet.. somehow F1 22 managed to almost defeat me.

CLEARLY VR was shoved in as a final decision - I firmly believe EA wanted to cash in on the PSVR2 launch - but apparently this is not going to happen - and I imagine it's because Sony told them to 'go away'.

VR is just not right. There are obvious frame pacing issues, when your head movement in the cockpit is a couple of frames behind what you actually see. It is horrific and simply not fit for purpose. The ironic thing, is once you're actually racing, it isn't quite as bad - but forget about making quick checks to your left and right - it is just awful."

Btw, if F1 22 performs badly, may I recommend another game, which finally shines thanks to the new high-end gpus - and shines much more than F1 22 did when I tried that game:

The price was 60% off, so bought the game again - and I'm glad I did. Just had the most amazing experience, really felt like driving a race car.

First I tried the CV1, but no-go with the Index connected, the game does not support native Meta drivers, only native Steam drivers are supported.

Then tried the Index with an Xbox controller, and the game simply worked flawlessly, after some fine-tuning. 90 Hz with motion smoothing and Ultra VR settings did not provide solid 90 fps, but close - then tried 80 Hz with no motion smoothing, and now the game suddenly was smooth as silk. The game no longer looked blurry, but nice and sharp - I did use SteamVR res 200% with the Index in addition to the highest in-game VR preset (Ultra).

Feels like I finally got the game I was dreaming of when F1 2022 launched this summer. What I just experienced was at least a 9/10, maybe even 9.5/10, truly awesome - at least for about $25.

I'm starting to really enjoy the game - won a couple of races today, I'm starting to get the hang of it, lol. And using TAA with FidelityFX Sharpening, the game is really sharp and no longer blurry.

Here are some shots using the highest VR graphics preset - and adding SteamVR res 200% - I can just barely run this in 80 fps with no motion smoothing with the Index - but the game looks really awesome:

F1 22 is one of the rare AAA games with official VR support - and now it really starts showing

You play seated - but if you stand up you'll get the perspective shown in the previous shot

I can think of many VR games with far worse graphics, and also worse performance 😉

20230102201136_1.jpg

The tires are quite round indicating high levels of polygons. I'm normally not much into such games but this looks great. See the bloom effect from the lights

20230102201416_1.jpg

Hard to notice the car textures when racing, but textures do look nice. Devs recommend 80GB space, but I think I only use 60GB...

20230102201224_1.jpg

Note the real-time (dynamic) shadows cast by the car (you can disable most features for better performance if needed)

20230102201152_1.jpg

Just a nice view I guess 🙂

20230102195423_1.jpg

Bringing some sunglasses may not be a bad idea 😉 The game performs quite well even with many cars in sight

20230102195752_1.jpg

There's 3D grass, but unfortunately for performance there's no free lunch 😉

20230102200925_1.jpg

I'm no simmer - I'm using my old & trusty wireless XBox controller - here trying to control the car. The game does work great with an XBox controller

20230102202406_1.jpg

Some tracks are much more demanding than others. I use SteamVR res 200%, but in Monaco I may need res 150-175% for solid 80 fps

View distance is great

20230102201110_1.jpg

Another example of the view distance

Note that the game only supports native SteamVR drivers, so sadly no native Meta driver support - I did try with the Rift CV1 but SteamVR keeps on starting.
