Forest VR - get it for free on Steam! (ok, close - it's 60% off ;-) - you still have 35 minutes!

Even if it's not made from the ground up for VR, this easily is a great-looking PCVR title - and may need a fast GPU - and a fast 4+ core CPU:

Right now you can get the game for about 7 bucks here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/242760/The_Forest/

The game has finger tracking for the Index, and also supports Vive and Rift.

Check out the shadows and lighting - looks absolutely awesome, and textures aren't bad either - in short, welcome to the forest (but be careful out there, there might be ... bears 'n .... stuff 🤣 )

Admitted, I didn't notice that the offer ended today  - still 33 minutes left, though. This game isn't expensive even at full price, so do give it a try no matter the price. Within the first 2 hours of playtime you can refund the game.

I bought this a while ago on a Steam sale for about the same price so it's bound to go on sale again imho.  No doubt the graphics are stunning!  Look a bit better with my Vive Pro and plays fine with my Index controllers.  I have way too much game backlog right now but I'll hopefully get back to it sometime soon.

9 9900k, rtx3090, 32 Gb ram, 1tb ssd, 4tb hdd. xi hero wifi mb, Corsair 750w, Quest 1 w/Link and wireless w/VD, Vive Pro.

Played it last night - it really needs res 150% with the Index and then it does look quite stunning - during the day. Main problem is I don't even get 90 fps using res 100 %  😂

Refunded it 2 years ago, and I don't think performance has gotten any better - I really think you need a RTX 3080+ for this game. Still waiting for the new rig - but everything is paid and set in production. Saving this game for later.

Now, it's not unplayable, but my best guess is I'm typically getting 30 fps x 3 or 45 fps x 2 with GTX 1080 and Index res 150%. Probably 45 fps x 2 close to constantly with res 100 %, but my eyes need the res 150 % 🤓

The dark nights are close to pitch black - and that does not look good with lcd - it actually looks really really bad. But the VR version was made in the dark oled ages, lol - and I'm sure this game not only needs, but requires, oled to provide a great experience at night.

For now I use the game for relaxing - there's a "Peaceful" mode with no enemies - I like taking a walk in the woods where you can enjoy beautiful flowers, many tall trees and severed heads on spikes 😅

Btw, I'm wondering if the game supports native Oculus drivers, might test that later today - this is another game where I'd prefer the CV1, at least until I get better performance (and pitch black nights will always require oled).
