A few days ago this game arrived in the Rift Store and on Steam. On Steam there's a playable demo, but I don't know if it supports native Oculus drivers.

I'm not much into such games, but this was really awesome (maybe not realistic, I tested the arcade mode 😉 ) Average Steam rating is 9/10 based on nearly 100 votes, not bad either.
Before trying this game I played Alyx, and normally everything looks very bad compared to Alyx, but not this time - check out the pilot's gloves and the cockpit - textures are very high-res (quite incredible since this game takes up 500MB drive space).
I bought the Logitech (Saitek) X52 HOTAS for Star Wars: Squadrons, but cannot use it in Warplanes. But Warplanes did what I really wanted in Squadrons - they set my hands free, so I actively have like HOTAS in-game. Thus you have both throttle and stick in Warplanes, and use your hands to control everything. It would have been awesome with such freedom in Squadrons - although you may come up short with buttons, lol (I think X52 has like 40 buttons/sliders etc).
Performance was the great surprise - even increasing SteamVR res to 200% I got solid 90 fps - that felt like Alyx class performance or close. The experience is really mind-blowing with the Index fov, sounds and clarity - with res 200% it feels like I can sharply see enemy planes miles away.
Might not be a real sim, so far I only tested the arcade mode, but that was incredibly awesome and fun especially dropping bombs with my hands!

I downloaded the free demo at Steam. When I go to my Steam library and open it I get the option to startup in eithe SteamVR or Oculus so def looks like it supports Rift ok.
Only played the demo with my Rift cv1 for about 15 minutes. Actually seems like a lot of fun and the controllers work better than I expected. Not even sure if a hotas would be that much better.
I’ll play around with the demo a bit more and try it with my other 2 headset (Vive Pro and Q1 wireless w/VD) before deciding whether or not to buy the full version. Only costs about aud$22 do not too expensive. Thanks for the heads up mate.

Awesome with the CV1 native driver support - I only started the game from SteamVR Home and of course don't get any Oculus mode option this way. But the performance is so great, I doubt I'll be using CV1 for this game - then again, my sons can

Some dude asked about motion sickness in this game - and can't say I didn't feel a slight stomach ... tingling... after about 30 minutes in the air - so if you're prone to VR motion sickness, this game, like Windlands 2. might not be your first choice to grow VR legs, lol. Or take it slow, max 10 minutes without playing something else ... and go easy on the barrel rolls, or else...

This game has been very popular on SideQuest, and is also available to buy for Quest on Oculus App Lab. I didn't know they had also released a PC version. I was wondering why Rune was suddenly praising a Quest game...

The evil devs tricked me by hiding the game in the App Lab, lol.
You don't get close to many objects in the game, and devs added high-res textures to the cockpit. The PCVR is twice the size in MB as the Quest version. Did find some bridges quite low-poly though, but you don't need many polys for long range airplane fights.
Realizing it's a Quest game, I held my breath and tried 120 hz - and yes, it worked, I got perfect 120 fps! And finally the same happened in 144 hz, where I got solid 144 fps! Note this is still with the Index res 200%, meaning about 18 mill pixels per image. So devs, you're forgiven this time - the amount of games my GTX 1080 can run in 144 fps res 200% are extremely few, nice to add Warplanes to that collection 🙂
Also had no *cough* stomach tingling today - 144 fps in 144 Hz with the great res did make this game shine even more - and may prevent or reduce motion sickness.
Now if only I could get Squadrons running like this, sigh... 😉
