Chatter about a decent wireless video solution

So, absorbing everything on the rift subreddit, I came across the following post: http://www.reddit.com/r/oculus/comments/1usmv7/ultragig_6400_wireless_hd_up_to_4k_and_near_0/

Since I do not have a reddit acc, and I did not see any active topic on it here, I will repost it for your information:
This week at CES, Silicon Image is demoing a wireless transfer method operating outside of the WiFi range, which is claimed to be 1080p60f able sub 5ms.

Thoughts on this?
I would love to hear from oculus team that they are at least going to the (invitation only) meeting about this technology.

Oculus is trying to get end-to-end latency down below 20ms, that is their #1 goal and even the Crystal Cove prototype isn't fast enough, while they've never really mentioned wireless as a goal except for the stand-alone device with a built-in mobile chipset. So they really have no need to check out this technology which will just add a lot of latency with little benefit to the average Rift user who stays right in front of their computer.

Seeing as there is little to no shared interest with me at all I would suspect that you are voicing the general public indeed.

Personally I found the idea of no cables very interesting, at least no cables away of the body (you could make a belt with batteries for example, but remain untethered).

Ah well, indeed the sub 20 seems like the primairy goal. However, for the years to come, I think wireless will be a very important upgrade.

It will come. Eventually we will be walking around with a pair of sunglasses and some earbuds getting the metastream out of the air. But right now every MS counts and you don't add when you are in the process of subtracting. But you are right. One day it will be glorious. I hope I live long enough to see it. The world I have read about all my life is coming to life before our eyes.

The possibility of a completely wireless headset is, of course, very exciting and is certainly the future of VR. But you know the old saying... one step at a time. There are only about a hundred other problems to solve between here and there. 😄
