After looking at the cost of building the DK1 tracker myself, it becomes evident just how cheap the DK1 was sold for. The included documentation is an interesting read; I wonder just how off will the inevitable chinese knock-offs calibration be, considering they most likely won't go through the hassle of setting up and running a turntable setup.
I just want to thank everyone at Oculus for doing this. This really keeps to the spirit of modding that began the first PalmerTech prototypes. It also hopefully finally silences all those who felt like it was ALL promised to be open source from the Kickstarter.
Carmack did similar engine releases while at ID and it really helped the community mod and learn from the older tech.
