Palmer: "This is an old placeholder concept image that we accidentally leaked. Everything in it is ancient, certainly nowhere close to final (as evidenced by the GPU specs and the game named "war") Enjoy checking it out, at this point, but don't expect everything to carry through to the stream on the 11th."

Ah, so you suggest that the new logo isn't a new idea at all?

Humhumm...

Separate lensmounts that look fit to connect to rails; Camera in front - slightly downward slanted; Base station that looks significantly more like some sort of compact antenna/coil array, than a camera (...and shows no lens at either end in the renders) (also: SID either not tracked in space (likely enough), or using non-optical tracking, given it will be entirely palmed in use); No need for even tiny hole for microphones, if the covering is fabric.

Interesting times ahead. 🙂

It seems the new logo was designed last year as there is a copyright date of 2014 at the bottom of the document. So yes, the design is old and they sat on it until now.

maybe:
1. a new type of positional tracking with the table device and totally new tracking equipment on the rift. magnetic, sonic, whatever...
2. with the IR camera on the hmd that is now hidden behind the faceplate used for hand tracking,
3. the simple input device with the same new generation tracking,
4. the gamepad piece a wand type, bigger controller, with a trigger in front and the same new generation tracking. has feedback with oscillaters or something. can serve as a saber, gun or a side stick in your dominant hand while you can still hold the sid in the other. Like a very high tech version of a dk2, nunchuck and wiimote combo, updated with precise and fast positional tracking.

One can dream...

Meh, I don't know about you all - but hand tracking was the "killer app" that I wanted from all these HMDs for a long while. Glad Oculus is thinking about/might have it going off that image there.

Can't wait for tomorrow!

A single camera lens on the front suggests a time of flight camera , as binocular or structured light projection would require another lens. Does anyone know if TOF pulse can work through matte plastic? Or would the matte surface screw with the laser pulse through interference pattens, or can TOF pulses be done with non laser LEDs. Or maybe its just a simple camera for pass through and SLAM mapping your room. Or maybe I am over thinking this as a render or mock up could just miss out little details like that.

A Nimble camera would negate the need for a "simple input device" anything you could do with SID could be done with virtual buttons and gestures with Nimble and voice commands with the mic.

The exploded view has two lens holders with what could be holes for crossbars which could make a design with mechanical IPD adjustment. But none of the renders show knobs where the ends of such screw bars would come out. Unless they driven by small electric motors that automatically adjust for the detected IPD.

Dont like the lime green headphone covers stay black.

This is probably made post Crescent Bay, but it could be before the beginning of the year, they may of been planning to release this year with game pad but after Vive showing at CES they may of decided "we need better input".

I think so too. Maybe they where afraid of being mistaken for the iluminati.

I bet the camera looks through IR transperent plastic at the end of the tube. Doubles as an HMD rest.
