GTA V First Person + Rift

Many of you have probably seen this video and thought the exact same thing that I did:

Just look at how detailed the interior of the vehicles are! Just bit of tweaking with some mods and a fully first person GTA V is clearly achievable. Granted this mod currently exists on only Xbox 360, but I'd bet on this mod being made on the PC within 2 days of GTA V being released.

Now imagine the open world of Los Santos in the Rift. Exploring that whole world and causing mayhem in VR? 😮 I'd get lost in here all day. I might even try to drive around carefully and attempt to live a normal life in the game for a bit (until I get the urge to snap, of course!)

I know trying to get this to work on the rift is the first thing I'm going to do when GTA V is released on PC. If I can't achieve it fast enough, I know someone else will 😉 imagine the extra publicity and hype Oculus would get if the Rift worked on such a popular, beautifully open-world game

Performance is exceptional. Could be better, but definitely more playable than skyrim w/ the last vorpx version. No Geometry 3D mode yet, only Z-Adaptive, but with the sharpen filter its pretty sweet. Also playing on highest settings but probably don't need to due to the resolution loss when playing on the rift, so could probably be more smooth. My specs are as follows:

- Asus Rampage IV extreme black
- core i7 4960 extreme o.c. to 4.02ghz
- gskill trident 32gb o.c. to 1400mhz
- Asus Nvidia GTX Titan (original 6gb, not black, X, whatever I should have waited for)
- samsung 1tb SSD

The settings indicator says I use roughly 3/4 of the video memory at full settings on all. Very little judder, almost unnoticeable if the head tracking sensitivity is turned down a bit.

Really?

Is there a guide on how you got this set up and working?
And did you download GTA from steam?

Yes, my setup was done with Steam purchase of GTA V and latest version of Vorpx. I run the rift on extended desktop and then set my Windows display settings to only output to the rift. As long as vorpx is running when you launch GTA V it should automatically start up in stereoscopic.

Just as a side note, only potential drawback for some is the controller. I'm using a PS3 controller with the drivers to force it to be recognized as an xbox controller. For some reason Vorpx has a problem with the analog sticks. Keyboard\mouse works great but trying to steer a vehicle really sucks like this.

*may be corrected by the steps mentioned here http://www.vorpx.com/forums/topic/headt ... nd-tricks/ will have to try this out*

An excellent report on getting GTAV to run at ^60fps on current hardware:

No word on how to achieve the magical ^90fps needed for good VR?

Not a terribly good reference for current hardware but my 980GTX with a 4790K at stock clocks runs 1080 at 100fps with everything maxed out except for MSAA which I left off. Other than the crashes the game is surprisingly optimized.

100FPS all max out, no AA, with gtx980?! I am using a 980 too and getting 55 to 80. Are you playing online or campaing with 100fps!? Thanks.

Probably because 90fps isn't needed for good VR.
