How to play 3D supported games?

Wheatabits

Hi, I am wondering if there is a way to play natively 3D supported games (Crysis 2, Batman Arkham City, etc) using the Rift?  It's one of the features I was looking forward to, since I don't have a 3D monitor.  I've tried it using Steam VR as well as BigScreen Beta.  Is there a setting I am missing somewhere?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Hi there. I was interested in this too. Unfortunately you can't natively do it. You have to use third party software such as Tridef or VorpX. And then a player like Virtual Desktop which now has full CV 1 support.

System Specs: MSI NVIDIA RTX 4090 , i5 13700K CPU, 32GB DDR 4 RAM, Win 11 64 Bit OS.

Did you get it to work?  So, to confirm, I need Tridef or Vorpx AND Virtual Desktop?  I use BigScreen, will that replace Virtual Desktop?  Also, which do you prefer between Vorpx or Tridef, I will definitely get one of the other.

VorpX has its own virtual cinema but will only provide 3D on select supported titles. Tridef probably has more profiles you can use but has to be used with Virtual Desktop which can be fiddly. Bigscreen does not support 3D playback at present. Check the VorpX forums for more info and the the Tridef website/forums to see what games are supported. You can make your own Tridef profiles though as an option but checking the forums there's usually people experimenting with stuff.

I've not gotten Tridef to work with Virtual Desktop yet, but it is possible and I've not really spent much time trying.

The games that do work with VorpX are pretty decent Such as Skyrim, Fallout 4 and GTA V. Those are three I've tried.

I'd go w/ VorpX.   Using it you can bring up any game on a virtual screen in the Rift.  Some games have proper 3D support which makes them pretty good, Arkham City being one.    I woudlnt go into it thinking your going to get your whole game collection in VR, but if you will probably get at least a couple to play in good VR (i.e. proper 3D with headtracking, so its actually like what VR is supposed to be)

This list contains the most important games that vorpX allows you to play on your Oculus Rift in Stereo 3D. Many more DX9-DX11 titles do work out of the box, just without Stereo 3D.

vorpX currently is the only available solution that allows you to experience modern DX10/DX11 games likeFallout 4, various Call of Duty titles, Battlefield 3/4 and many others on your Oculus Rift.

Thanks everyone for the info!  Very thorough.  I am just taking my first steps into the Wild West that exists outside of Oculus Home (I guess many of us are).  I will pick up Vorpx this weekend.  Do I need Virtual Desktop as well?  Or is it just a nice to have?  I may get it anyway, BirScreen is cool but seems lacking in features (which I can't complain about since it's free).

You dont need anything with VorpX.. you need Virtual Desktop with Tridef

Anybody actually tried ARMA 3 with the CV1? I feel like because of the engagement ranges in that game the resolution would be so poor you would basically be useless as infantry.

Used Tridef with Virtual Desktop to play Guild Wars 2 in 3d. Works fine, unfortunately GW2 is dead AF since HoT released.
