Following on from the posts at a discussion we started. We decided to create its own discussion on this growing subject of interest.
- We propose to have a report on the new FarCryVR [PC-VR] experience that we reviewed.
- We will also be reporting on the new Phenomena Arena [Standalone] experience we are covering.

It will be interesting to see if these take off after the pandemic is over, and could these push more people to get a home VR HMD once they are able to try VR without the gamble of buying a HMD first.

Agreed - the pandemic hit the entertainment industry hard, but from what we are seeing from the VR LBE scene there has been a major upswing, especially in North America to the deployment of VR entertainment.
I am able to share a graph from Zero Latency, who release FarCryVR showing the up swing in their machines following the lifting of lockdown:
Looks very encouraging across the sector, why I think we have seen so many LBE VR announcements.

I posted some FarCryVR reviews and some of the public sentiment here:
https://forums.oculusvr.com/t5/Games-and-Apps/FarCry-VR-VR-Arcade-Experience/td-p/873954
Due to the lack of hand and finger tracking, this experience will likely appease VR newcomers only; while veteran VR Enthusiasts with more sophisticated VR experiences available at Home (and with larger multiplayer options) will either avoid this altogether or try it once with little desire for repeat business.
I am hoping to try the Texas experience soon as well, while pandemic restrictions are loose. The new Delta Variant of Covid is making its rounds in the US, and there is increased talk of re-imposing some pandemic precautions/restrictions should the new variant cause an increase in hospitalizations.
Pandemic life is likely going to be with us for some time. I imagine it will be a difficult time for businesses relying on people to remain in close proximity to thrive. There were VR Arcade business closures before the pandemic, and it naturally got worse during. Unless this niche industry gets a new business model then it will likely continue to deal with the same challenges as the rest of the world adjusts to post-pandemic living.
As it stands now, the VR Arcade niche industry doesn't appear to have an updated business model. Wiping down equipment is a good start, but that is something that should have been happening from the beginning anyway. It will be interesting to see if this classic Arcade business model will finally be able to get off the ground post-pandemic.

Funny thing is with people getting back out of lockdown it might drive people to try new things like this.

Would truly love to play FarCry in VR, but I guess the VR version will only be available for VR Arcades.
Probably gonna settle for Green Hell VR at home instead 🙂

I think I'll join you there. If it's not arriving on a headset near me I'm not really intyerested.
And by near, I mean within a couple metres!

Example from todays trade event in Vegas of one of the latest deployments of Quest2 into Arena VR installations in the Out-of-Home entertainment scene... not in the future, happening (and being sold) now!

So Commercial VR is using Quest 2, a Home VR headset? Interesting.
What is the software experience being depicted in this Vegas attraction? Is it AAA caliber, or another 30-ish minute Arcadey experience?
From the imagery in the background, it looks like another Shooter. The VR market is saturated with shooters. I wonder of Arena VR will offer anything unique, or even higher caliber than we have at home. Short arcadey experiences are hard pressed to compete with the like of SkyrimVR and Half-Life: Alyx.

Another example of the use of Standalone just launched this week - coming thick and fast - the interest in Out-of-Home entertainment approach addressing the need for multi-player VR for space and support unable to achieve with just the home loadout.
