Nvidia RTX 3050, 3060 (Ti), 3070 (Ti), 3080 (Ti) & 3090 (Ti) HAVE ARRIVED (INFO AND BENCHMARKS)

It seems like we'll get:

The new Ampere-based GeForce RTX 3000 series cards will reportedly offer more VRAM on all cards, so we could see:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 - 12GB
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 - 12GB
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti - 16GB.

Maybe reduced power consumption due to 7nm. And maybe the best - if it's true:

NVIDIA is reportedly set to offer its next-gen GeForce RTX 3000 serieds at cheaper prices than the current-gen GeForce RTX 2000 series, which would be interesting. NVIDIA faced considerable backlash with the pricing on its GeForce RTX 2000 series, even though they still sold like hotcakes a price reduction is always welcome.

Wow. I have just 1650 super. It is quite good for all tasks that I do, but not so powerful as these cards

For the GTX 1080 rig I did install some MSI software, but really don't use it. Afterburner was really the only thing needed - 3200 MHz mem could just be set in the bios.

I'm too for a minimalistic approach, probably will only update in case of issues (if it works don't fix it, lol).

Yea I was just talking about Drivers not all the bloatware and software stuff.

BIOS flashing can be really good to do but also can add absolutely nothing. It just depends on the board. Not really worth doing if it doesn't fix something useful.

I will say though that even ASUS shoves stuff out of the doors these days and relies on flashing to fix anything they missed.

I assume that's a TUF board from the look of it with Wifi. I didn't catch what CPU you went with in the thread. If it's 11900 you may want to consider flashing. Here's what the BIOS updates fix so far for that board.

Version 0811
2021/04/07 9.27 MBytes

TUF GAMING Z590-PLUS WIFI BIOS 0811
"1. Support Intel ABT (Adaptive Boost Technology) when using i9-11900K、i9-11900KF processors.
2. Improve system performance.
3. Update microcode of the 11th Gen Intel processors
4. Improve system stability
5. Improve PCIE device compatibility. "

Version 0820
2021/04/28 9.27 MBytes

TUF GAMING Z590-PLUS WIFI BIOS 0820
Improve system performance

Two rounds of System performance upgrades alone would be enough for me to flash lol. 😎

Thanks - yes it's indeed this mainboard:

After reading quite a lot of tests, I settled for the 10900K - according to results I consider trustworthy, 10900K is about 7 % faster than 11900K (fresh results from March 30 2021, averaging 10 different games):

RuneSR2_0-1620301438062.jpeg

- also it seems 10900K uses less power. These results, and Anandtech found similar, were kinda red flags to me regarding 11900K:

When are you going to breath some life into that puppy?

Totally impossible to capture the awesome lighting with my phone - also haven't removed the protective film on the case glass yet - but having an Asus mainboard and video card mean the lights are similar - at least the default lights, I haven't changed anything.

Got Win 10 Pro running - Nvidia driver installed itself - first visit is of course CPU-Z - to see if the dudes in the shop sold me the correct hardware, but it checks out fine, lol - at least for the brain:

20210506_161116.JPG

- and never doubted the beef:

20210506_161417.JPG

- again these are all default settings, I've touched nothing. Not sure why I got the 460.89 driver - but the system has been totally stable and it's so incredibly quiet in Win 10 that I'm sure I can hear a pin drop. Seriously - it's more quiet than my old rig, and my old rig is very quiet.

There're a lot of fancy pants benchmarks out there, but I prefer the good old stuff. The below results from Heaven Benchmark were really funny, because I got 121-122 fps with my heavily oc'ed GTX 1080 in the Heaven Benchmark - using 1920x1080 and all other settings maxed (Ultra setting in 1920x1080, Extreme Tesselation, 8xFSAA etc - thus this isn't the standard test in 1600x900 or using High preset). Heaven Benchmark is really hard and unforgiving when you totally max everything - and very stable.

So let's do some GPU cooking - there's nothing like the smell of hot thermal paste 😍 - 75 degrees Celsius during the first run, not bad - same as my GTX 1080 (that one goes to about 77-81 degrees in the Heaven Benchmark):

1-1.JPG

- and the somewhat surprising results from my first test run:

1.JPG

- thus exactly 100% faster than my old rig, lol - but my old rig is about the same speed as a non-oc'ed RTX 2070 Super. Very glad I went for the 3090 and not something slower - I do not believe I'm cpu bottlenecked here at all. My stepson has a MSI laptop with a RTX 2060 (mobile gpu) and gets 80 fps in this benchmark using the exact same max settings.

Went for some more gpu cooking, and you can smell it, lol - but this was my max in temps, remember this is using the Silent Bios with the Asus Strix OC 3090, and still it's the same temp as my GTX 1080 (but that one is also extremely silent). I really think the Strix 3090, even in this scenario where the fans weren't standing still at all, was more quiet than the old rig:

20210506_164815.JPG

I couldn't get it over 78 degrees Celsius. Then again this wasn't a hot summer day. Second gpu cooking run results:

2.JPG

So exactly 100 % faster than my old rig - which is nice, and further oc'ing etc. may get me more, still never before paid $5k for 100% more performance, lol.

Btw, one dude with a RTX 3080 got - using same settings: "Unigine Heaven benchmark (Direct3D11; 1920x1080; 8xAA fullscreen; Ultra; Extreme tesselation) and got an avg fps of 178.6 (score:4495)". So my score was nearly 40 % higher.

Fans running at max speed - with the Silent Bios - still extremely quiet:

Next stop might be Steam - not really in the mood to move the drives from the old rig over yet. Maybe some Cyberpunk 2077... Still have a lot of work tomorrow, but after May 12 everything should be better, have to prepare several lectures for students.

Congrats @RuneSR2  !

Nice looking rig there.

Fun times ahead!!

I did get slightly lazy, so I didn't build the rig myself (apart from inserting the video card) - I can see that the dudes in the shop probably updated the bios, because I got v. 0811. But of course not 0820 (too new).

Still running some basic tests - but for now TimeSpy did get a lot faster - compared to my old rig (GTX 1080 + i7 7700K). TimeSpy Graphics Test 1 improved 156% - so nearly 3 times faster. And Graphics Test 2 went up 152% - ok, so 2.5 x my old rig. Probably fits my original estimate of 3090 being about 3 times faster than a normal (non-oc'ed) GTX 1080.

The TimeSpy cpu test improved 130 % - becoming 2.3 x faster, but that's multi-core unlike many games.

Thats still a good card...no need to spend a boat load of extra money on something you don't really need if its meeting your needs. Cheers!!

Usually if a graphics driver installs itself without the user doing anything, it's usually a Generic Windows driver that is installed by windows update that matches the video card.

I would go to Nvida drivers to get the actual Nvidia drivers for your card rather than the ones Windows decides to use. The Nvidia ones usually perform slightly better and are more defined to particular games and fixes.
