It seems like we'll get:

The new Ampere-based GeForce RTX 3000 series cards will reportedly offer more VRAM on all cards, so we could see:

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 - 12GB
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 - 12GB
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti - 16GB.

Maybe reduced power consumption due to 7nm. And maybe the best - if it's true:

NVIDIA is reportedly set to offer its next-gen GeForce RTX 3000 serieds at cheaper prices than the current-gen GeForce RTX 2000 series, which would be interesting. NVIDIA faced considerable backlash with the pricing on its GeForce RTX 2000 series, even though they still sold like hotcakes a price reduction is always welcome.

Expected - maybe - in the first half of 2020:

So DLSS adds 10-20% more performance in No Man's Sky - I was expecting like 50%... But haven't tried it, still waiting for the Index hmd to be returned:

They did only use a 3070, maybe cards with more hair on the chest can do more, we'll see...

Kinda boring - 3070 Ti is only 7% faster than the 3070:

- but power consumption is a massive 35 % higher 😮

- who can tell the 3070 apart from the 3070 Ti in Cyberpunk 2077?

In short - get the 3080 instead - or something even better - or just go for the 3070. 3070 Ti does not really fit in anywhere...

Admitted, not sure this vid fits much in here, but there are benchmark results from both 3090 and 3080 - and it just looks awesome!

I'm more than a little disappointed with the 3070 Ti. Not that ANYONE will be able to buy the bloody things anyway!!! 😫

After having tested the RTX 3090 for about a month the conclusion must be that the performance is simply phenomenal. Of course many games already performed great with my oc'ed GTX 1080 (which scored like a non-oc'ed RTX 2070 Super in the OpenVR Benchmark), but there were many games struggling just keeping the 45 fps (ASW 2.0).

One extremely demanding game was this semi-sim-like game, namely Cars 3:

Note that I also upgraded my cpu from i7 7700K (4.5 GHz, 4 cores) to i9 10900K (5.3 GHz, 10 cores), but I had no big problems getting 90 fps with the 7700K, so I doubt that the cpu upgrade means much in this game. Using Rift CV1 ss 2.0 I had to lower several settings to get nice 45 fps performance - especially with like 20 other cars on screen. (Note that this Steam game supports native Oculus drivers.)

Yesterday I sat down, started the game - and just for the fun of it I maxed out every setting - that's Ultra or High all the way, and starting the first race something like this happened, lol:

mind_blown_shutterstock_photoschmidt.jpg

I simply got perfect 90 fps no matter what track I played. It  was unbelievably awesome to see the RTX 3090 pull this kind of fps and image quality. Never thought I could go from 45 fps to 90 fps and still activate all the eye candy. Btw, my brain is so used to 45 fps ASW 2.0 that getting solid 90 fps was kinda hard on my stomach 🤢, but still played the game for like an hour - and nausea quickly went away while gaming.

DiRT Rally was similar - Ultra settings all the way and solid 90 fps CV1 ss 2.0, although DiRT Rally is far less gpu demanding than Cars 3. But DiRT Rally is much harder than Cars 3 on the stomach, lol.

When I was a teenager, one of my friends told me he had just seen the most amazing racing game ever - and it looked so real. That was Sega's Outrun in maybe 1986 or so. Well, yesterday I did think to myself that now I really got my own Outrun game - and it looked and performed just awesome, lol.

Another truly mind-blowing RTX 3090 racing experience was this one:

Using the GTX 1080, I had to lower ambient occlusion settings, reduce antialiasing, reduce shadows and reduce in-game super sampling (must be set in-game) - and that was to get 45 fps. To my amazement, with the RTX 3090, going from super sampling 1.6 and 2, and all the way to the 4 (the max) still gave me solid 90 fps. Then I maxed out dynamic shadows - still 90 fps. Maxed out antialiasing - still 90 fps. Maxed out ambient occlusion - still 90 fps. Maxed out every in-game settings - and still got totally solid 90 fps.

Feels like a new game - graphics looked so much better - and the performance increased immersion like never before.

I think I'll do some racing this weekend! 🙂

That game sounds interesting, but I saw this on the Steam page: "The VR mode for this game requires the use of a gamepad or a keyboard and mouse." Nope, sorry. A VR mode that doesn't use VR controllers for hand-based interactions just won't cut it. Too bad--it looks like a game I might enjoy. Perhaps I'll add it to my wishlist as a raytraced non-VR game to try once I get an RTX card.

DK2, CV1, Go, Quest, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Try my game: Cyclops Island Demo

I tried the game, even with gamepad it's a lot better in VR than 2D, much more natural controls. Kinda adds to the horror having two dead-ish arms attached to your body, lol. You'll miss out on meeting some great dudes 😉

The game is rather cheap on Steam, I also consider it a nice app for trying RTX ray-tracing and DLSS in VR. I wouldn't bother if you can't activate the RTX effects. 2c.

Finally got to try the game - a really awesome experience - felt much like Cosmodread, but scarier and with 50 times better graphics, there's really no comparison at all. The ray-traced lighting was the best I've ever seen, at least in a VR game. Here's the game using a RTX 3080 (DLSS Performance mode) and the Quest 2:

Using Rift CV1 ss 2.0 (17 mill pixels per image) might be somewhat bold, and enabling all ray-tracing effects, ray-traced reflections and DLSS Quality, I no longer got 90 fps with the RTX 3090. But the ray-traced reflections did not look right, caused some strange shimmering, and image quality with deactivated ray-traced reflections looked much better, at least in VR with the CV1. Enabling all ray-traced effects and DLSS Quality I got close to solid 90 fps - only a few places couldn't keep up with the 90 fps. Maybe with the RTX 3090 DLSS Balanced with all ray-tracing effects enabled would be optimal (and ray-traced reflections disabled) - at least when using Rift CV1 ss 2.0.
