Question about cleaning lenses

Should I dampen the cloth before cleaning the lenses? If I do would it be ok to use alcohol or would just water be better?

If you choose to dampen the cloth, then you should use a mild dish detergent (Dawn soap) and water. You can also use the microfiber cloth dry as long as you practice care and common sense. Make sure the cloth and lens are free of dirt and grit before you wipe. You can buy a lens brush with an air puffer at just about any camera store, which is used to blow and brush away grit on the lens. Use a very light touch when you make contact with the lens, and use as few strokes as possible to remove oils from the lens.

Some people have reported that their microfiber cloths received with their kits felt like sandpaper. If that's the case with yours, then don't use it. Practice common sense. A proper microfiber cloth should feel velvety soft.
