September - Will This Be A Pivotal Month in the History of Consumer VR?

We enter what is a momentous period for this Phase )and the next) for consumer VR:

- September 16 - Oculus Facebook Connect 7
Revealing the new Quest(s), the promise of Horizon, and the claims of a PCVR announcement

- Launch of HP Reverb G2 / Valve HL:A announcement on the system and new package / Microsoft involvement announcement [BREAKING Launch of HP Reverb G2 moved to October 24]

- Launch of the first Qualcomm XR powered Standalone headset (Lynx)

- ....and obviously some surprises that are currently 'Embargoed' at the moment!!

This is a major period for VR, the cheaper Quest-S  variant will hopefully usher in Millions of new users to the Facebook Reality platform, and could open the door on mass adoption for the Holidays. Oculus are reported to be manufacturing some 2m units in preparation and to avoid the original Quest sales problems, (remember the current Quest has only achieved 1.2m deployment).

Here is a great little video that offers a snapshot of what we are saying:

Last nite was my son's 11th birthday and we got him the Rift S for his now very beat up MSI laptop {Quad Core-i7, 16GB, Nvidia GTX 1060, USB 3.0's}.  It has minidisplay port so I didn't need to buy anything extra.   Setup worked flawlessly --he made me set it up the night he got it.

I'm hoping for some multiplayer games so we can play cooperatively together.  Do you think they'll make VR versions of Total Annhilation or Empire Earth?

Actually I don't own a VR headset but I guess will have to get one for my 62nd birthday?

Yup, someone on the AV forums has said they got an email saying that the release date had slipped to October due to them changing the lenses.

And I don't think too many people will be interested in the Lynx either. It's aimed at LBE, not your average consumer.

This could be.

First hmd (g2) with good enough resolution to look almost like real life.
Good enough gpus (3k series)to make that virtual reality look almost like actual reality.

As you can see from my Avatar I have used the HP headsets, as well as all the rest (think I can say I have had head in most of them), and I am not sure that I would say this is almost like... but getting better.

Looking forward to the much promised Oculus CV2 launch at Facebook Connect 7 with its Half-Dome screen system to get a glimpse at the next generation in PCVR.

People have already reported receiving emails stating that they will be receiving them at the END of October.  Feels like I turned in a rebate coupon in the 90s, by the time this thing shows up I'll have completely forgotten I even ordered the damn thing. Next time I'll put the money in an account specifically for pre-orders so I don't have to keep a mental note that there's going to be over $700 disappearing nearly 4 months after I committed to the transaction.

I will believe cv2 when its announced was it due in 2019, 2020,2021 etc. Oculuis is about casual gaming now and until they give a firm release date for a cv2 that exceeds current headset specs then sorry no prize
