Slam F8

I watched F8 mark Zuckerberg talk on AR and how he plans to make it mainstream through a mobile device.
It's the size of a phone and a few years ago you could have called these phones but they are not anymore. Phones are down on the list of what you use them for, straying off subject. So I'm watching and as he talks about how Slam as a piece of software not unlike the hololens spatial mapping system and how it is going to start to change the gaming world as we know it.
The software itself can scan and map out say a table and as you look through your MD (mobile device) you can get to add objects to the table to interact with. The demo was children looking through the MD then hitting an empty area upon it killing the beasts that the dad could see on the screen. This in it self-did not make much sense to me, but I hadn't played it.
Still, the potential of this was starting to sink in. Another aspect of slam was pretty cool you could take a photo and turn it into a 3d image the demo was a room where he added depth
then filled the room with water, you could look around, add things like filters you have on Instagram to jazz your photo up.

What really made me think slam is going to bring AR to the mainstream was when I thought about Nintendo switch. Nintendo's new gaming platform
built on portability and connectivity about the size of iPad give or take, so you could play and connect with friends where ever you are. In a coffee shop, break times at work,
parks, where ever.

So now we have four people sat around a table in a coffee shop with an MD like a switch that can connect to the others. Now say they are playing dungeons and Dragons.
you have a dungeon master sat at the head of a table, he scans the table then opens the game. The other 3 players are then asked on their screen if they would like to play of course they say yes and the information is shared.
The dungeon master has chosen the game and is now on the table for all to see through their MD. They characters sat waiting for the role of the dice so they can fight whatever monster is upon them. You could even keep the game's sense of authenticity by having dice that interact with MD. This could work for so many games like sims where people can get together and build neighbourhoods or cities. Chess like on star wars where the aliens actually kill each other or the harry potter scene where pieces kill when taking an opponent. Golf, Final fantasy to the world of warcraft. Street fighter where all 4 of you fight to the death, this would be extra special if you could custom train your characters the list of games now start to grow in your mind.

This would get even better if you add something like a light pen, what is it with light pens they sound really cool. Yet over the years, they have popped up only to disappoint but I think this one is more of a light pen we have been waiting for or maybe we should call it a magic wand. The light pen will give you the ability to interact floorless ly with the AR environment on the go. so we are back in the coffee shop our guys are sat around a table playing say Mario cart or Micromachines but from the point of view of looking down on a scar lex Trix or a train set through the MD. Of course, you get the option to go in car and anyone else in the coffee shop can spectate from pov. Now on this day one of the guys gets there early and decides he wants to make a custom map to race his mates on. He slams the table then pulls out the light pen and starts to flick through the list of track pieces on his MD and as he holds his light pen in front of the MD and scrolls the list of track p. The pieces appear
on the end of the light pen. He starts to build the track then he scrolls environments, trees, mushrooms, Yoshi having a walk then starts to mix it up a bit with micro machines adding a ruler as a bridge or piece of cake to skid around. The guy at the counter behind him is sat taking a call from his work colleague. He has finished a 3d design of a bike part and needs some advice, the design is sent and the light pen helps him spin the design around. Women sat in in a chair with headphones on frantically waving her light pen around as she conducts an orchestra or orcs playing Beethoven.
a retired guy walking around the coffee shop laying down a train track as the orient express readies itself for departure. A group of teenagers on another table furiously waving their light pens like a magic wand sending spells killing the beasts as hordes run across the table in front of them, trying to get the highest score before the time runs out. This is the kind of interactive Gameplay that would make me want an AR mobile device, let's hope it's not in the too distant future.

SLAM will also be revolutionary to the VR Porn industry too. VR Porn is already amazing but VR Porn with depth perception and head tracking is going to blow everyone away.

Can't wait!

"This you have to understand. There's only one way to hurt a man who's lost everything. Give him back something broken."

what if there's nothing to give?

I think you mean movies in general right because the later implies you just watch porn.

There's always something to give back to someone who's lost everything...because that person has always had something taken away from them in one form or another. Even if that person has lost someone to death.

Well the majority of 180 degree/360 degree films are porn films, but once the non-porn film industry catches up with the porn industry then you'd be talking about films in general.

By the early 2020s, when we'll see the CV3s being released from Valve, Oculus and others, we'll end up seeing entertainment in general being transformed. Not just porn films and non-porn films but also TV series and major sporting events will be viewable in 180 and/or 360 degrees of VR.

This seems like a backhanded threat. You have to count out all material objects right. That leaves you with relationships, that means it's talking about breaking a human to punish another human. All you would be doing there is damaging yourself and making the other human very very angry.

ON Slam and films because you apply it to a 2d image and create a 3d one and considering films are made up of frames. you could apply it to most films.

Also looking forward to evolution of VR

It's precisely a relationship that Covenant was talking about. Covenant is the victim in this case, not the perpetrator. You should read the books, The Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant, they're excellent. You'll be hard pushed to find a better sci-fi fantasy author out there, he's right up there with Tolkien. B)

Have you even read the books..? If so and that's your opinion then you have suspect taste lol

Donaldson is right up there with Tolkien, and Jordan too.
