The Latest Enterprise Headset Impresses

We have been writing about Enterprise operations in VR deploying the Varjo XR headset - including military, commercial simulation and the first LB VR users. Now this SeriousVR  headset gets some coverage outside of B2B.

There is a guy over on one of the flight sim forums has the Varjo and swears up and down how incredible it is.

Swears he can run flight sims with great results and awesome image clarity.

But no, I sure ain't spending that kind of money for home use.

In a few years time,  this will probably be in a consumer price bracket.  Cheers to things to come 🙂

Considering some of its ongoing issues, seems that more work is needed before it can become a serious contender. Lack of audio is a no-no. The "swimming pupils" which causes blurred/shaky images is unacceptable for this price-point. The FOV is too low as well, which is a shame for a high-end headset.

All that said, the mixed reality aspect seems amazing. Exactly the type of thing I am looking forward to experiencing. It appears that they have leap frogged Facebook with this specific technology. I hope to see more competition in this arena.

Military use seems a great path to take. Good competition for the hololense. And due to the text clarity, commercial sector for VR Business usage is fantastic as well.

But for LBVR and Arcade attractions? Seems like it would be a wasted investment considering the cost of the headset, the low quality games available for LBVR, and the fact that LBVR headsets get heavy traffic and damaged quickly. I've seen Vive Pros utterly destroyed at VR Arcades with all the children man-handling them. It would be quite cringe to see the Varjo in that setting lol

I wonder if Varjo is going to introduce a new hmd Oct 21, which might no longer be targeted enterprises...

Looks like a major announcement before Connect - which is telling.

I do wonder how much more you can profit by selling to consumers - if the price and hardware offerings are right. Of course there will be more support needed, but enterprise requires support too.

For me the problem would still be res in games and apps - maybe we'll need 8k textures for Varjo to shine. Wouldn't make sense to play Quest ports on the Varjo hmd, lol - already now few games have textures good enough to match the Index panels, especially when you're close.

Agreed - a valid point, and one that HTC, HP, Varjp, Pimax, Pico, DP and Lynx are all working towards - a mix of Serious VR, with a gradual circulation to the Prosumer market - while Valve has focused wholly on the Prosumer, with a smattering of Serious VR sales.

With the announcements at Connect we will get a better perspective on this opportunity, and also understand the impact of what is an obvious speedbump in sales. The argument of "you make it cheap they will buy" seems to have reached its first major leap of faith, and the recent churn in executives can attest to new thinking starting to be applied.

Many claimed that HTC and HP would fail at selling to the commercial sector - now we recognize commercial VR business as a very profitable and established business - where maybe the likes of Sony and Samsung may adopt a multi-platform strategy as other plan to pivot.
