Good question - we include in the evaluation list when the game was "nominated" and that usually marks when it was in the public realm. We do have games from time to time that come early (before release) to be included. In the closed forum post I included a list of the games I was evaluating before the finalist process.

@OmegaM4N and @kevinw729 I'm going to take Ryan's lead and delete post from now on that are comments on moderation activity as these in themselves I think are designed to be a trigger towards people you disagree with.

Stick to the topic only please.

thanks.

When it comes to any type of Award structure, I tend to prefer those that let the community (end-users, consumers) have a voice in the nominations and selection process.

I think this is where Valve does an amazing job, since their entire process is driven by Steam Users. It would be great to see Oculus and Facebook copy Valve's successful VR Award model.

One title I have noticed gets a lot of praise by many users over on the Facebook VR Groups, is Ghost Giant.

I can't help but wonder which "hidden gem" VR Titles would end up in a Finals list, or even winning selection, if we were able to run a VR App recognition award based on user selections.

It may be a fun exercise to host something like that on this forum. Hmmm... 🤔

Ok, at least you have Squadrons - that game was released October 2 2020. If I go back to summer 2020, some games and apps I find exceptional and which are omitted from the lists of 2021 Finalists would be:

1. Medal of Honor - Above and Beyond (easily part of my top 5 list of the greatest VR games ever made). This game also transcends normal gaming by including many small movies about real WW2 experiences (told by the soldiers who experienced them). Medal of Honor would be my game of the year if we go back to the last half of 2020.

2. Space Explorers: the ISS experience - this app continues to amaze with new movies. Surely the devs behind those awesome VR NASA movies deserve an award - but maybe they already got one...

3. If Paper Beast isn't too old, I'd highly recommend that - few games show such great creativity. Right up there with Fisherman's Tale or close 🙂

Done 🙂

Fully agree with Medal of Honor Above and Beyond. Great game, have played it through a couple times now and will undoubtedly do another down the road.

Really love how Medal of Honor Above & Beyond gives you this kinda giant "tasting menu" with about 50 levels covering many aspects of WW2. Maybe some dopamine junkies just want long never-ending battles, but to me Medal of Honor Above & Beyond could not be made much better.

This isn't a game designed for dopamine junkies (even if the game can give you that fix too, lol), but for persons wanting to get a more intimate and educational WW2 experience - therefore all the movies. I've watched all the movies - haven't patched the game since release, so I still have to earn the movies - and it's a reward I greatly appreciate and look forward to receive after I won some battle.

Also these short films aren't just there to make up for missing game content at all - these short movies are of the highest quality and even won an Oscar!

"Developer Respawn Entertainment made history during last night’s 2021 Academy Awards after a short film included as part of its VR WWII shooter Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond took home the award for Best Documentary (Short Subject). By all accounts, this marks the first time a video game developer has won an Academy Award."

Btw, I guess many in here still haven't played Medal of Honor: Above & Beyond - I even bought my copy in the Oculus Store 😇, my review (using GTX 1080 back then - so you really don't need more gpu power to enjoy the game) is here:

(Btw, actually did only use CV1 ss 1.5 for the game, since ss 2.0 would crash the game probably due to 8GB vram not being enough (ss 2.0 is pushing 17 mill pixels per image - and that's just for the CV1). Using RTX 3090 now I can use CV1 ss 2.0 with no problems at all - solid 90 fps everywhere, no crashes maybe due to the 24GB vram. Surely, using ss 1.5 performance is already optimal or close with a GTX 1080.)

I actually have not watched those short videos yet, will have to enable that for my next play through of the game.

You have something great to look forward to - not sure, but wouldn't surprise me if there're 3-4 hours of movies in total. Also I have not yet seen them all.

Thanks for sharing those opinions and also the perspective from the consumer side.
Its nice to have the judges made up of actual developers that can look into the achievements based on experience in the content. Agree the consumer views are needed and that is achieved in the nomination process.

We know the importance of moderating the judgements as we've seen what happens so that we avoid the blather.
