I'm a bit confused with the situation between Oculus and Valve. Are Oculus and Valve competitors, colaborators or something else?

Me too...from this last new it seem that OR and steam are collaborating and that the steam box is something that will be very involved in their future plans...

...but, on 1 month ago articles John Carmack seemed very skeptical about the success of steam box

Something else. Valve will benefit greatly if the Oculus takes off as VR is an exclusive feature for PC gaming and will push every console gamer who buys one into the arms of valve. Oculus benefits from the legitimacy/awareness valve brings it through steam and was shown valve's prototype to give them ideas of how to improve the Oculus. Palmer is such a VR nut he invested in a competitors product (CastAR, which valve had the IP rights to but gave away) and has effectively said he welcomes competition as it will only further advance/legitimize VR.

I don't know if valve ever intends to release this HMD prototype they'll be showing to the public, but at the very least it will drum up even more interest in VR.

Awesome, I'm glad to see so many big companies are getting back to VR. Can't wait to see what's to come in the near future!
