Well We Can All Wave Goodbye To Horror Games And Games With Decent Melee Combat Now

Anonymous

Oculus have just emailed with regards to a new content policy and it's ridiculous. Details here:

https://developer.oculus.com/distribute/latest/concepts/publish-content-guidelines/

"

Content Guidelines

Here are some basic content standards that we apply to all apps and games. The following is not accepted in the Oculus Store:

  • Pornography, including content for the purpose of sexual gratification.
  • Excessively violent content (including but not limited to: torture, rape, child abuse, animal abuse, cannibalism, glorification of gore, and dismemberment).
  • Hate speech, bullying, molestation, or harassment.
  • Real-money gambling.
  • Applications directed to children or users under the age of 13.

So if you're wanting to play a horror game or game with melee combat you won't see any dismemberment. Fucking ridiculous.

I can see horror game developers in particular abandoning the Oculus Store in favour of Steam if you can't have a few severed limbs here and there. And that's going to be a disaster for all Rift owners because we know how much of a clusterfuck SteamVR is for Rift owners since the Rift launched.

Dismemberment has been a part of video games since the 80s ffs.

And don't forget exotoxicated. That's just being drunk on the outside. B)

Wish I could get drunk. Thanks to my allergy I can only get drunk on @vannagirl's lurve. 😞

You see, these guys ain't think they are Superman. Just those gamers who never seen the dangers of your limbs being cut off. I must say, RoboRecall and Arizona Sunshine seem to have kept their ranking of MOST DISMEMBERMENT by changing the rules for new Devs - congrats by this. It's a kinda mafia dare I say it!
As the vast majority are over 18 it rather makes it childlike for us adults from now on!

I'm still lost though. Isn't Oculus good for under 13s or do they simply not trust that all they wanna do if play games which they find entertaining to them? Seems to be like a perverted twist of over-parenting by hypocrisy just because they think they themselves would abuse the PG Ratings if they were still young.

(Why does the forum not recognise the word ENTOXICATED?)

Umm... It is not the forum; it is the spellcheck of your browser. Why do so many people think that spellcheck comes from the sites they are visiting?

I am sure, they mean "excessive" dismemberment ..

Moderate dismemberment.  Just doesn't sound right.

One dismemberment is OK, but no more then two per opponent...

I guess that means the Oculus Store isn't getting GORN.

Just imagine if HBO entered the VR Gaming Market. There'd be sword fights in orgies with all sorts to cut off!
Got an early night...school day tomorrow (work) LOL!

And... Now I want HBO Game Studios.

Er... Though, it would be amusing if they named it HBO New Entertainment Realities Studios, but were oblivious to the abbreviation.

If it is "Just a flesh wound", it is not dismemberment right?  🙂
