Will VR games work across different headsets?

Will VR be a platform in itself, or will each individual HMD be it's own separate platform? I pray that the former is true.

Addendum question for devs - how hard is it to port a non-VR game to VR? Does it require a top to bottom overhaul? Imagine games like Rise of the Tomb Raider & The Witcher 3 - imagine those worlds in VR. 😮

Some will, some won't. It will be just like the current console market, although with a PC you will undoubtedly be able to find some work-a-rounds to get something working that might not be supported.

Rest assured that Steam will support as many HMD's as possible (definitely the big two).

That really depends on the Developers. Valve is trying to standardize OpenVR to make it easier for the devs.
