I just came out of Hospital (Again)

Without going into too many details I just got discharged from A&E and whilst I was waiting in recovery and when the Docs were doing their thing. I wondered about the Oculus GO. I was  tempted to get my missus to bring mine but luckily I didn't have to wait long. That said, in this scenario having a GO would have been fantastic as I waited in the room there was a lot of disturbing noises coming from other rooms. It would have been nice to just shut that all out without having to disturb other patients in the process. Perhaps this is something that could be introduced on the Wards, where rather than a communal TV set, each bed has a GO for people to use (obviously with wipe-able aftermarket face foam and somehow attached to the bed/wall to prevent being stolen). Perhaps this could aid some people in recovery or better yet, take their minds off what the DOCs are doing. It might also come in handy when you have a number of unwanted visitors, you could just shut them out. 😄

Interesting, I'm working with a company called Applied VR who do exactly that. https://appliedvr.io/
Amongst other things.

The idea is that VR can help in all sorts of ways in healthcare, including reducing pain rather than taking anesthetics as well as having a nicer scene to look at than the sterile rooms. The results so far have been incredible.

Just had a look at the site, fantastic stuff, I find guided meditation stuff in VR to be very therapeutic for work stress also.

If you are in the UK good luck getting the NHS to pay for patient VR 😄 Having said that, it would be a great idea provided that it was headphones only.  The last time I was in hospital There was an individual patient TV available if you paid for it using a mini TV mounted on an arm, there was also limited internet via the same screen.  The problem was the TV just played so you could hear anybody else using the service as well, so very disruptive.  I also wonder how available WiFi is in hospitals as well, I can see bandwidth problems if a lot of people wanted to use VR.

Absolutely! Meditation is great in VR for all sorts of real world related issues. Another company I work with Limbix: https://www.limbix.com/
They do similar things, including meditation for therapeutic purposes as well as for helping patients through more severe disabilities.

I actually believe workplaces could adopt a policy of "VR Time" .. if a person experiences stress they can go jump into a bit of VR to relax on a beach or go to space. UK has a really high rate of work-related stress and depression and more and more people are going to GP's for medication. I think VR in the workplace as a de-stress tool could be super beneficial for both employees and employers.

Not to make light of the STRESS of work but in realtive terms I wonder what the Londoners used during the BLITZ. NOW that was stressful.

Hope it was nothing too serious @Shadowmask72

The last time I was in A&E was taking a friend who'd suspected she'd fractured her ankle, around 11:00 on a Saturday night and the wait to have a doctor look at it... then a wait to have the x-ray was horrendous, something like 4 hours in total.

I'd have definitely benefited from some VR escapism, but having said that, probably best not to look like I'm enjoying myself too much when I'm trying to look sympathetic.

I agree. Kind of like this Pause Pod idea:https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/egoistemondiale/pause-pod-your-private-pop-up-space-for-relaxation
VR has such great relaxing applications to decompress. Especially if you are given a selection of relaxing experiences, so that you can tailor your experience to what you need at that moment in time.

Hanging in here, back in again on Friday. Hopefully, will be back to normal then. Fieldofvision that is exactly the kind of thing I was suggesting. Cool that it's being tested/used already (even if that's with the GEAR VR) time to switch to the GO.

Oh holy jesus i just read about the charging-on-the-go in the General thread which linked to the main "charging while using" with all the warnings in this section then saw "i just came out of hospital" - i thought the worst had happened

Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3
