Oculus Go / ExFat for +4gb files?

Anonymous

I'm using Oculus Go with Mac Sierra and Android File Transfer.

Can anyone help me find a way to upload files larger than 4gb on to the Go internal storage?

Many thanks for any suggestions

Hi, gp360!

I assume you want to do this for movies (mp4 files). There is a way to do it on a Mac, using the adb command-line program that developers use to debug mobile devices.

  1. On your Mac, copy your movie file to your user folder. For example purposes, lets say it's called myfile.mp4.

  2. Copy adb to your user folder. It is part of the Android SDK Platform Tools:
    https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools

  3. Enable developer mode on your Oculus Go.
    https://developer.oculus.com/documentation/mobilesdk/latest/concepts/mobile-device-setup-go

  4. Connect the Oculus Go to your Mac with a USB data cable, and put it on so that you can click OK when it prompts you to Allow USB debugging? in the headset.

  5. Having allowed USB debugging, you can take the headset off, but keep it plugged into your Mac.

  6. On your Mac, launch Terminal.

  7. In the Terminal window, run this command:
    ./adb push myfile.mp4 /storage/self/primary/Movies

Many thanks for that, much appreciated. will try shortly, but I'm afraid I don't know either what the destinationPath would be, so might need to wait for your update 😉
Thanks again

Sorry to trouble you again. I followed your advice, but get a '-bash: adb: command not found' warning in Terminal.

My steps were:

Download SDK Platform tools and copy only the adb executable file to my Users folder
Enable Developer Mode on the Go
Type '
adb push ' into Terminal, drag the mp4 file I want to copy from the desktop into terminal to copy the path, and finally complete the command with ' /storage/self/primary/Movies'

Is it easy for you to see if I'm missing something?

Thanks again for the help.

Oh, shoot! Yes, it is my fault. I forgot that on a Mac, we have to add a ./ before the command.

Try:
./adb push myfile.mp4 /storage/self/primary/Movies

Revised instructions follow:  @gp360

  1. On your Mac, copy your movie file to your user folder. For example purposes, lets say it's called myfile.mp4.

  2. Copy adb to your user folder. It is part of the Android SDK Platform Tools:
    https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools

  3. Enable developer mode on your Oculus Go.
    https://developer.oculus.com/documentation/mobilesdk/latest/concepts/mobile-device-setup-go

  4. Connect the Oculus Go to your Mac with a USB data cable, and put it on so that you can click OK when it prompts you to Allow USB debugging? in the headset.

  5. Having allowed USB debugging, you can take the headset off, but keep it plugged into your Mac.

  6. On your Mac, launch Terminal.

  7. In the Terminal window, run this command:
    ./adb push myfile.mp4 /storage/self/primary/Movies

If you need to delete the file, you can do it through the Android File Transfer tool on your Mac.  The file will be in the Movies folder on your Oculus Go.

Hello! Thanks for the tip. It worked yet I'm not able to find the file in the MOVIES folder. Is the file hidden?
