Hello, we are thinking of purchasing quests for a classroom. I was wondering since the hand controllers are wireless, are there any interference issues with a large number of quests in one classroom? Has anyone used a bunch (10 or even 20) in a classroom?
The controllers use a synced Bluetooth connection to the headset, so I don't think interference from other units should be a problem. I'm not sure if there could be tracking issues due to the cameras on one Quest seeing the controllers from another, but Oculus has done large-scale arena multiplayer events at trade shows, with many people running around using Quests in the same space, so it seems like it should work.
I agree with nalex66. I googled it & apparently Bluetooth devices can pick any one of 79 channels. If the channel they choose is already in use, then they pick another.
“Bluetooth devices automatically detect and connect to one another and up to eight of them can communicate at any one time. They don't interfere with one another because each pair of devices uses a different one of the 79 available channels.3 Jan 2017“
Still, if you're going to buy so many devices, I would ask Oculus to confirm.
There might be an issue with connecting them all to the Wifi network, schools would have secured networks and probably won't give out connection details easily.
I hope that it's not a primary school under 13 year olds? Otherwise you'll be voiding your warranty as the quest shouldn't be used under 13. Just a heads up
